Gearing is 56/13. I think the stock rear was 52/12. I like the blue seat on it. Looks a bit like the flash ones you see in Spain. I'm hoping some rich Spanish suger-daddy see's it and offers me a zillion peso's for it. Any idea how many were produced?
Very torquey little motor. Struggles a bit in the mid-range so I'll have a bit of a play with the needle/jetting on the weekend. It's got a Mikuni on it. I thought they came with an Amal.  What's on yours Greg? The front seems to dive a fair bit. The brakes feel pretty good and it seems to steer well.
Your bike looks great Greg. Be good if we could get them together one day. I'm glad you gave me the incentive to get off my arse and get it finished. One less thing to trip over in the shed. Actually. Everythings a go-er at the moment. Might be time to do a bit to that VR......

I really think you're enjoying the YZ far that much and you really should let the VR move on to sit next to its old mate the VB360 ;) ;D

The standard gearing according to my parts manual is 12/50. I didn't check the chain guide contact with the chain problem due to the 56 rear sprocket until you mentioned it  :-[. Not good, I changed the rear sprocket for a genuine Monty 48 rear sprocket I had (standard for a 360 I think). I now want to get an 11 tooth for the front. Do XR250 sprockets fit straight on? I think you told me that I need to make a spacer from the old sprocket is that correct?

Mine has the Amal and it is not worn excessively. The bike happily idles away for as long as you want. Poor idle or no idle is the first sign of a worn Amal slide/needle etc.

The only problem with mine now before rego is to get a 6V 18/5W bayonet cap globe with offset pins. Not easy these days. Blowing the rev dependant horn brings back memories, is sounds like a distant dying but angry bumble bee.

I agree the brakes are great for a Monty. The front brake is very similiar in appearance to the front brake from an early '80s Honda, does not work as well as one of them though. This is one of the little Honda influences that started appearing about that time. If you look at the exhaust design and method of construction you can also see it there. The same type of thing was appearing on the Trials bikes of the same period.

The thing handles well and the rear suspension layout is almost identical to one of those German thingys (MaiKo or something).

Looks like you have one of the gear levers from SoloMontesa as well. Whoever designed them had size two feet :o ??? They are for too short for my liking.

Geezez. With a 48 tooth rear on it you should be trying for some land speed records! I guess you can get an 11 th XR. You just have to use the boss off an old Monty sprocket. I've done it twice with a hack-saw and been rooted for a week afterwards. Best get someone to turn down an old one on a big lathe. Then just pop it over the top of your XR sprocket and you wont be able to stop giggling for the rest of the day.
I'm still a long way off rego as mine doesn't even have the guts in the light that I got (Good 'ol Luis again...). The wiring is an absolute night-mare and I've got a horrible feeling I'll be paying someone to do it  :(

I'm pretty sure that's the stock gear lever.....

I think a 414 would look better beside your VB Greg.  ;)

??? There are about six wires Ross ::) Do you want a wiring diagram? I have a Cota 349 diagram which is the same as I used it to rectify an error in my bikes wiring. Mind you the Montesa wiring diagrams do leave a little to be desired  :D.

11/48 (4.36:1) works out close to the standard 12/50 (4.17:1) or what was fitted but hits the guide 13/56 (4.3:1). XR250 11 tooth sounds the go. Any model XR250?

I have a number of the light units if you need parts. The actual light is the same as H^, H, Cota 348, 242, 349, 248 etc. The most bizarra things is a parking light on a bike that has no form of power except when the engine is running  ??? go figure!

Mate I can't put batteries into a torch the right way! ::). You know the two wires that go onto a Motoplat? Big one and a small one? Well I usually have to go away and have a think about it.
I'm terrible with electrics.....

I'm looking at the packet that my aftermarket XR sprocket came in and it says...
SUPERSPROX
10-KK1-13
95-132713

I'm sure your local dealer can work it out from there  ;)
