hi Jim
the sr crank is heavier and bigger in diameter than the tt/xt crank and wont go into tt/xt cases without machining the crank scrapper, external rotor's are different as well for the cdi and 3 phase 11 amp alternator on the sr500

TT5Matt,
I have recently got hold of an '81 XT500 and noticed it has a points ignition. When or did they change over to a CDI ignition and can the points models be changed/retrofitted with CDI?

Jim
yeah the top end and box will go into the sr cases no probs i run a tt box in my sr500 [same ratio's] i cant use the spocket nut lock tab because the tt/xt output shaft is slightly shorter than the sr shaft but every thing interchanges between the model's except for the shifter drums where sr's and later model tt/xt's use a bearing to save wear on the cases.

all ozzie tt/xt run magnetto points ignition but the sr stator/rotor bolts straight into the tt/xt cases/crank or get a late model usa xt stator rotor/cdi set up and they have 6 volt lighting/charging coils verus 12 volt sr500 set up
