TMB - I thought they went a bit downhill after the 82 Z - 83 was decidely tame but the 84 a little better - I think the 84 Honda was still pick of the crop that year?  But extremely reliable  ;D

an '86 MXA used bike comparison gave it 3 out of 4 stars. No other info in there unfortunately

Great bike, just put the 82 model head on. 84/85 were the last of the strut full floater and worked great. I had yss rebuild my shock and now has alot of adjustment. Plenty of parts still available.

I raced an RM250E back in '84 and it was a great bike. Raced a friend's '84 CR250 a few times after my bike was stolen and I didn't like the Honda as much as the Suzuki.

Geez Bill Isnt there a class where I dont have to race you!!! ;) I thought I had this one to myself ;D
Sell it to me and return to the jedi  :D Next it will be "whats the best Pre 90 bike" :o Actually I think (even though i love my D/e/f model with the go fast bits ) the Honda Is a slightly better bike for this class "off the shelf"

Ira (in joke) you can still buy DG pipes and mufflers via the usual suspects for the 250E.
Cheers Liz

they are a great bike bill 8)
a close copy to the works bikes
very nice handling
rear suspension excellent forks quite good once set up
standard motor down on power slightly to the others
but can be fixed easy ,like zorroz said change the head
or have it reshaped ,bit of a port clean up and a pipe
and it will go as good as anything out there
or you could leave it standard they still go quite well

i raced one in 84 as well, not as fast as my 82
but a much better bike to ride ;)
follow me to first turn
