I was at the wreckers today and he told me you can see what year and month of manufacture a bike is if the bike is using its original rims because its stamped in the rim he checked to bikes while I was there and he was right is this old news and I'm just a bit slow. jimson

it's not on all rims Jimson..mainly yamaha it seems and only applies if the rim is original  ;)

i think its the three numbers after the letters  dot  eg dot 978 would be 9th month  year 78

The dot mark on the rims is usually a year before the bike, ie.  DOT 8 78 will be on a 1979 model bike. Every so often the rims will be the same year, but most of the time the rims were made before the bike, hence they are a year older.
