First Annual Klub Kevlar Show'n'Shine
« on: October 29, 2009, 11:07:31 pm »
First Annual Klub Kevlar Show'n'Shine,  November 15, Alroy Tavern, 371 Rooty Hill Road North, Plumpton.

In a bid to spread the VMX message to a new audience, Klub Kevlar is holding a show and shine style vintage dirt bike show in the picturesque grounds of the historic Alroy Tavern in Plumpton on November 15. The tavern, a converted country mansion is situated on a couple of acres of beautiful manicured lawns and gardens and is conveniently situated between two M7 Motorway off ramps making for easy access.

We are hoping to attract as many classic off road machines representing all classes ranging from speedway to Pre 90 VMX. To give the event a sense of 'showbiz' there will be show awards for various machine classifications as well as some great product prizes. However, just because there is a show element included in the display, don't think that we only want concourse garage queens. We encourage you to bring as many bikes as you can manage, whether they are barn find 'fresh' or concourse pristine restos. The object is to show the public the huge variety of machine choices and degrees of finish that go to make up our sport. Our aim is to display that our sport encompasses all sorts of bikes and degrees of resto standard.

There will be a playground and clowns for the kids, a charity auction with great items on offer, all proceeds to go to the Noel Clarke fund and the pub management has indicated that they will offer a meal special that is yet to be finalised.

For the Show'n'Shine to be a great event we need as much of your support as possible. Entry is FREE but we need to know if you're coming. The Alroy management has kindly offered us the run of the grounds but to make sure that the show layout and catering is correctly formatted we'd like to get a ball park idea on how many of you and how many bikes will be in attendance. Please PM me and let me know if you're coming and how many bikes you'll be bringing.

This is a great opportunity for us to show the public what VMX is all about. All proceeds will be going to help one of our injured mates and it's also a great opportunity for us to socialise without the distractions of a race meeting getting in the way.  If all goes well this could well grow to become a yearly event. Setup starts around 7.30am and the show should wind down around 4pm

Sounds like it's going to be a fantastic event and great opportunity to promote the sport and help out a mate at the same time.
Pity I can't be there to drink beer and tell lies with you lot.  ;D

I've posted some photos showing the lovely ambiance of the Alroy Tavern. The pub is a beautiful venue that encourages family fun by holding Sunday afternoon shows for the kids. A Google map and some photos of the Chuckles the Clown show are here http://www.starz.com.au/index_files/alroytavern.htm

Firko, as I have both my sliders stripped down for resto the only thing suitable to bring is a totally unrestored C15 BSA, it has been in storage for a long time but would be a great example of where some of the completed bikes started from. Let me know?

Bring it Curly....The plan is to display everything from tarted up garage queens right through to unrestored gems like your C15. The idea is to show that one doesn't need a 20k Metisse or CCM to get involved. I'm hoping to show my unrestored DT2MX that's been sitting in the Mojave desert for 20 years alonside my pimped up Ducati to prove the point.

SHOW'N'SHINE UPDATE:
Details are fast falling into place regarding the Show'n'Shine. The auction is looking to be an exciting part of the days activities with a KTM SX50, kindly donated by KTM being just one of the great auction items. The latest addition to the auction items is a full photo session for your bike by the great Bill Forsyth. This is a never before chance to get those cool photos for the pool room and who knows, if the bike's suitable and the model hasn't previously been covered it could end up good enough to feature in VMX. No promises there though. Instead of your bike, you might even want Bill to do your family portraits...it's the winners call.

YSS has kindly donated coupons for purchases and a number of people have donated clothing. We can always do with some more auction items so if you have something you think would be suitable please bring it along.

There will also be bike trophies for Best British, Best Japanese, Best European, Best Special and a peoples choice award. Of course there will also be a rat bike award so even the dungers have something to aim for!

I've submitted  promo pieces for the local Blacktown Advocate, MtDruitt Standard, Penrith Press and Hills Leader newspapers which will appear with photos in next weeks issues for a good lead up to the event.
I still need to know whos's coming so if you haven't already let me know please PM me.........

Hi Firko,
Can we please have an update, whats the funds up to and how are the orginizing for next weekend going.I have been considering flying in for the event can you send me some details of accomadation etc.. Using my Contacts through the state bodys being vice Presedent of Motorcycling Tasmania I have asked each state to donate 1 senior national license to be sold/auctioned with all proceeds to Noels fund. I hope that all the states will donate,I will keep you posted, it will be a good talking point if some states don't donate. Tasmania has given one and normal cost is $210.00 so the first person from Tassie to contact me or Firko can buy it for $200.00 no strings every one needs one so buy now. The other states will follow hopefully.

Cheers
Fatboy

UPDATE:
We've just returned from a meeting with the Alroy Tavern management where we sorted out a few of the logistics for next weeks Show'n'Shine. The first thing to note is that while the gates will be open for us to set up at 7.30-8am, the event won't be open to to the public until 10AM due to the hotel licencing laws. We've been given a loose closing time but figure that around 4pm would be a reasonable wind down time.

*The Charity Auction will start at around 1pm and Crackers the Clown and friends will be performing for the kids between 2 and 4pm.

*Because this is a new event we aren't sure how many bikes are going to be in attendance so it's a 'suck it and see' situation as far as layout. Your display location will be taken on a first in, first served  basis.

*Once you've unloaded you can park your car and trailer on the vacant block accross the road as there isn't enough room for cars and trailers in the display area. Kwikshades are a allowed.

*Pub management has requested that participants refrain from bringing their own beer/alcohol, soft drinks are OK. The bar is open and the publican stated that the whole property is licenced so he doesn't mind you buying drinks at the bar and taking them back to the show area. The pub bistro will be open for meals during normal lunch times.

*Plaques will be presented for..Best British, Best Japanese, Best European bikes...Peoples Choice and the Rat Bike award.

*There is no entry fee but a bucket will be going around and a gold coin donation to the fund will be appreciated.

The three local newspapers, Penrith Press, Mt Druitt Standard and Blactown Advocate are running promotion stories and photos in next weeks edition and they have indicated that reporters may be in attendance to report for following editions.
We're really hoping that this will be a great opportunity to show off our sport to a public that may not be familiar with the vintage off road scene. We realise that this is the first time and aren't expecting a huge roll up but as the Paul Kelly song says..."From Little Things Big Things Grow" and both Alroy management and Klub Kevlar would like to see this grow to become an annual event.

If there are any questions or if you can think of something we may have overlooked please comment here on the forum or PM me. If anybody has a small PA system we'd appreciate it if we could borrow or hire it for the day. Please let us know ASAP otherwise we'll hire one.

The Noel Clarke fund is currently at $4,350.31.

Thanks Shane for your (and Motorcycling Tassies) kind offer. I tried to ring you the other day but there was no answer so I left a message on your messagebank. It's great of you to consider coming up  and it'd be great to see you but this is only a small thing, not a big extravaganza. It's a long way to come for a small local 6 hour show. I'll give you a ring tomorrow and we can discuss everything. Unfortunately, I'm already full up at my place so if anyone can offer Shane a place to stay could you please PM me?
