Yep the New Zealand accident compensation commission is running at somewhat of a billion dollar deficit through reckless spending and mismanagement ...... but they have a solution  ::)

.......its not so much that we don't like harley's, it's just that harley rider's are so easy to bag, that its become a national sport........harley boots, harley bandana, harley jacket, harley underpants (I shit you not !! ),ad infinitum..........it's just too easy

Yeah those Hog guys are an embarassment and fools to themselves for that reason I wear T shirt and sneakers when I ride. Used to hire a few welders so got to know a few patch bros so mostly ride with them if I ride with anyone at all.

I also built my own bike from bits rather than just write the cheque....

MarcFX,  T-shirt and sneakers could be one of the reasons why??

Wow and heres me thinking nobody reads my stuff.  ;D

Makes a large bike 3 x more expensive than a car, because according to ACC it is 16x more dangerous. hmmmm

Their argument will probably be the same the used in NSW some time ago - if you get hurt on a bike and the car is at fault, the payments come out of the small pool of motorcyclists and not the larger pool of cars (which caused the accident).

(But ride a bike and you are more likely to get hurt, and more hurt, in the same accident when compare to a car (dolh). The stats range from 4:1 to 16:1. Which exact ratio depends on which stats you use ::). Stats, damn stats, and lies (to quote someone famous ::)).

YEAH RIGHT  ::) the government would rather waste it on handouts to other countries everytime they get in the shit  >:(
ACC is a great system , government would be better looking at the billions wasted on legal aid each year to repeat offenders  >:(
And the bloody welfare state where teenage girls are encouraged to become baby factories and live off our taxes  >:(
Did i mention the bloody churches , why are they not taxed  >:(
I feel better now  ;D

Long live VMX  :)

From the look of this thread, we all pine for the old days and easier(less taxing) times me thinks.
Is there any country in the world that hasn't spent all of our hard earned on their F ups?? Somewhere we can go and live and race VMX and be happy-I'd rather pay good graft than taxes.
South America looks nice-and they're very keen on bike racing-just check out last years Dakar!!

Yep at over $700 to register a bike, VMX just became even more appealing.

But you are right Bill, if most of the South Pacific wasn't leaching off the NZ tax payer it would help.

In all seriousness though they will raise the ACC levy for motorcyclists but when you consider the number of registered mototorcycles in NZ , (i dont have figures but its not that many ) Lets say 100,000 but i doubt its that many . If you levied them an extra $1000.00 a year each then they have taken an extra $1000,000 .00 . Woopee doo the government sqanders that amount a hour on the above mentioned things.
Motorcyclist are a minority group and therefore an easy target  >:(
Personally i wont bother registerstring my road bike , i would have to get caught and fined 4 times a year to break even with the registration fee .
So minister Smith go fork yourself  >:(

I haven't owned a road bike for quite a while so it doesn't affect me directly, problem is when they use the stats for bike accidents per registered bike mx accidents, farm bikes including quads & the trailriders who get helicoptered away at every school fundraiser are all thrown in. Reality is at a guess only about 10% of the bike accidents are registered road bikes. MNZ has been told by ACC to do something about trailrides due to the cost of fixing someone trailracing, basically if they don't it'll give them another excuse.
I still wonder if the rise in rego is a smokescreen so the politicians can backtrack & look like they're listening while putting forward something else they knew would never be accepted whether it be i'm suing cos i stubbed my toe & so someone must be at fault or ditching ACC in favour of having to have private insurance

Bill - "Personally i wont bother registerstring my road bike , i would have to get caught and fined 4 times a year to break even with the registration fee" .

Hate to put it to you Bill but I don't think that will last long. Most likely the fines will go up soon also.
Cash strapped Governments look for anyway they can to increase revenue.Im assuming that the NZ gov is in a similar situation as most of the rest.
If its any indication in Cal. (usually Aus follows on a few years later and then NZ after the US) they are looking at taxing visits to the vet, amusement parks , games of golf ,etcetec.Traffic fines are already over $400US I heard. >:(

Didn't they spend 12 million last year on helping some terrorist stay in the country, ask him for the money back.

Or take it out of the 42 grand the pollies are getting as a houing allowance.Or Sue Bardfords free airline tickets, or borrow it of Nga te awa who just got 4 billion dollars worth of pine trees for 24000 people. List goes on.
