Any of you QLD boys know someone relatively locally (BrisVegas) who will do a good job of replacing an originial seat foam on a YZ125E, I have NOS seat cover and the original base and original (very saggy) foam to take a copy from.

My advice as an ex-trimmer/upholsterer is buy a new seat foam from the USA. This place seems good http://www.x-tremevintageyz.com/products.php I haven't bought anything from them, but I have had responses from emails. Maybe another member has experience with them. Anyway they have some trick stuff at good prices.

Have been looking for a NOS or replica seat foam for quite some time. The problem being that the 125E 78 model seems to miss out with anybody doing replacement bits in that year. (250 and 400's OK). I will drop those guys in the states an email to see if one of the listed models is the same shape as the 78 125.

Thanks for the info, have not seen that site before, looks like it has some good stuff on it.

I have a 77 IT250, what YZ seat foam (if any ) is the similar or same? Good link.

Sorry Dirtpilot but I'm sure that IT seats are shorter that YZ seats! However, since they are shorter you may be able to cut a seat foam down. Take your IT seat off and compare it to a YZ250 1977 seat. Maybe you can modify one. There's nothing like a new seat foam!

Seat foam is created in a blown mould (using closed cell foam) and is difficult to reproduce since it is poured into a mould to set. Open cell foam, which is commonly used in furniture upholstery, is easier to come by and use, but in my opinion not as good when exposed to the elements like bike seats. I have made seats out of open celled foam, but if I had a choice and could by a blown mould seat foam at a reasonable price I'd buy it.

He used a ratty foam to copy from and stitched up a new cover and I think it cost a bit over $150 or so?

The seat he made up actually fits better to the tank than the original ones ever did.

Dave has got me thinking that I could make a mould out of my original (saggy seat) and fill it using closed cell foam. Although if it is blown in I suspect that means specialised equipment.. Will have to look on the web to investigate.

Sorry my post was a bit vague. He made a new foam as well for that price. He does orthopaedic work for people in wheelchairs and bike riders with bad backs. I wouldn't bother tryhng to make your own foam base.

Dropped seat into him today, prices have changed a bit... upwards... seems to know his shit though.. looking forward to seeing the finished product.
