G'day Caps, if starting is you problem maybe i can shed some light on how i fire my 85' CR500 up. i'm not a tall bloke but rather stocky (ok then i'm a porker) i had heaps of trouble when i first got it. now i have it nailed. Big bore two strokes need a decent charge in them when cold, not many blokes can kick them over like a 250, so this is what works for me.
on a cold day when it hasn't been started that day or the day before, i pull the plug out and give it a good squirt of "start ya Bastard" or aerostart, put plug back in , choke on, apply easy slow pressure to kickstart (not a kick) until i feel it rock just over TDC, a good handfull of throttle and a big Kick and it fires 1st or second time.
after it has run and warmed up, mine starts 1st or 2nd kick every time on race day if it is not too cold (less than 10 degrees like ravenswood in the middle of winter)
