treat it the same as a YZ/DT of the same era Bill.
anything up to 1982 should work.
a piston kit is far better than buying a piston and rings seperately as yamaha did experiment with differing ring combinations {ring thickness,single/double etc}.
if your after performance, most YZ pistons will have a nice cut away on the inlet.
or go the DT's full skirt if you want something a little more mellow and reliable.
Davey will probably be along soon  ;D sprooking off about them woosner things...
might catch you at CD7,
cheers mate.

Gday Vandy,
I noted that cutaway on DT pistons that i had for another project.  but it would seem that it would fit my yz125e. I was told i could cut the dt piston the same as the yz, would it matter i aired on the side of caution and only  cut away 90% or so. might give a bit more mid range???
Cheers Brett

i've never really ventured down the path of cutting piston skirts myself but i do know the DT style pistons have a hell of a lot of meat on them by comparison to the YZ ones.
they look strong enough to handle a bit of a skirt trim is what i mean.
i'd do it if it's all i had to work with.
