Exhaust pipe manufacturer ID

The mounts are original. No way this pipe is/was for anything but a center port. The tricky thing is if i had seen the pipe just from a photo i would have never had bought it because the header section makes it look as if it is for a side port but its not. I was just lucky enough to see it fitted to a bike first. It makes me wonder how many other times i have passed on similar looking pipes that i did not think would fit center port 185 and 250's, although bolt on silencer is a big clue i guess. 76 and older did not have that.

Can via android see the full pipe pic. Header and first cone look Bassani.specially the odd angle joint.

Key to the centre port is the width of the U bend in the header. Side port bassani header has no straight section there.

yeah i know but i am pretty sure someone checked a late 70's Bassani catalogue for me at one time and said nothing listed for beyond 76 models.

Strader is another manufacturer but nothing solid showing in a listing i have for around 76/77. Lists one for 77 PE250, RM250/370 and a TS185 but no ID on 185 year so i would assume its older side port.

I think J&R made them for this model but i have not got any 100% solid info or photos.

Ditto to Hoony's comments although I can see the photos on this page now but that could be because Leith changed some settings.

I already had the latest Firefox version but I just upgraded to the 64 bit version, still can't see the Yamaha  DT 322 pics.

Strangely, despite all the warnings from photobucket my photos still seem to be live??

Also I recall seeing new vintage exhausts in the early 90's that used washers for spring hooks

Had a quick look around and both Hooker and Torque have used washer retainers. Hooker appear to be more of a formed pipe rather than constructed. Torque seems to be the better option to concentrate your search as the construction is consistent with its finish and methods.

I did speak to someone this week who sold hundreds of Torque and J&R's through his ebay store and prior to that in his shop over many years and he did say it does look a lot like a Torque because they typically used 3 cones and then later 4 with the last bit of the header section tapered which mine has. I have  a lot of Torque photos but they are all a bit different/older and none have a washer for the spring to hook onto. Some appear to have the shield held on by nuts and not screws though, indicating a bolt or stud was welded to the pipe rather than 1/4' nuts like most i have seen. Not many pics out there on the internet now. I just save what i see on ebay listings. It would be good to see what a late 70's Torque looks like. Anyone got any pics?

Not a Hooker either. I got Hooker catalogues 78-79 and there are only 76 and older TS pipes in there.

Bassani used Wire ( coat hanger probably) not washers for header spring retention.
Whats it off and any chance of a full shot of the pipe? could help with the ID as I have seen pipes with washers but its not  jumping out at me. Looks early 70s and I dont think they had TIG or MIG untill the late 70s so Oxy was the tool of choice.

TIG and MIG both invented in the '40's.

Really  yamaico? Well there ya go. I can remember just, at TAFE fresh out of school getting a go of this new welder that just sprayed faultless welds My mig seems to be full of budjies with a upset tummies.

Not quite as refined as they are now Pokey, (but likely better quality than some), but they were there.
