1978 IT/YZ ignition breakdown
« on: May 19, 2016, 05:07:43 pm »
Hey all,

A mate has an 1978 IT250 and it seems to run extremely rough when warmed up.

All signs point to ignition issue (possible coil break down).

He has a new CDI box which rules that out.

Is it possible to get the coils rewound in Syndey anywhere??

He has a race meet in a weeks time so he needs to get into it ASAP.

Is there any alternative to replace the coils with an aftermarket solution??

Cheers in advance!!

If you dont find anywhere else then I would ask there guys:

http://www.peachtreerewinds.com.au/

We used them for motor rewinds at my old work, surely if they can rewind a star / delta 3 phase motor, they can do a basic coil??

Coil breakdown as in stator charge coil or ignition coil?

Stator charge coil has specs in the manual and should be able to be tested with a multimeter, and the ignition coil is replaceable with a generic one.

At a pinch, a megger might see if the charge coil is shagged, but I'd seek a second opinion before trying it. Should be good for winding wire.
