It's interesting how White Bros basically said don't go past our 272cc piston, yet Al Baker/FMF offered a 310cc kit

I could never understand why you have to spend all that money on a bike to make it go from new?

I will say up front that I have never ridden one of these, but if all reports are true, there was never a better candidate for performance improvements!

I did a KL engine in the late eighties when l was playing with 2 litre car engines. Used, l think, a 1.00 mm o/s  1100 piston for about 280 cc. I made a big inlet valve by cutting down a blank Manley Ford 2 litre item. I reseated it and ported it and made a 4 stroke emulsion tube carby from an IT 250 34 mm Mikuni. Piece de resistance was the cam. We stellite welded and ground the old Repco Brabham /Wade 161A formula 1 profile on the inlet, something else on the exhaust so the valves didn't touch each other, shortened guides, found some springs. Pipe was quite small bore, down, and with a slow taper megaphone. Probably 30 hp at 10000. Went well.

Not many people have your engine building skills though Marcus! It would have sounded great.

+ 2mm on the bore with standard stroke will give you 262cc

Once you get up around 300cc plus you then have the "Gearbox made of cheese" issue. I like mine at 262 with the megacycle cam and the MTC piston. Larger pipe and standard carb. It's way better down low (pulls like an XT500), but the main thing is that it has been 100% reliable. I am tempted to build another bigger "hotter" motor, but I cannot see the point.
