Kawasaki KX125 KE125 help please

Hi blokes, I am building/collecting parts for a 1974 KS/KE125 VMX build.

Finally scored a close ratio tranny cluster last night
The seller also has this bit of a KX125 for sale


My question is;
Does the 1974 KX125 run a bigger carby than the KE125?
If so I should grab it too?

74 KX125 has a mikuni VM26SC and the 74 KS125 has a Mikuni VM24SC. If you can get another carb at the right price I would grab it. I also have the standard jetting specs if you need them.

Thanks Lozza, that is most definitely the eventual path I will tread, after my VMX build dreams budget recovers

In the meantime with teabag1's help I have identified the original 74 KX125 carby as a Mikuni VM26SC F7-5
the identical carby fitted to the KE175(except for jetting)

Goldsby has kindly given me one of them and teabag1 has offered jetting specs to get it up and running

In the meantime Lozza could you give me a ball park for preferred opening and closing of the rotary valve for motocross? please

depends what the standard timing is and the rest of the engine but 120/65-70 will be a good start. Top end won't be spectacular but will have great bottom end/mid range. What ever you do, don't ever use a KE/KH piston in a tuned engine or this will happen, about 15 hours work destroyed as soon as the ignition was dialed in

Expecting more than 15 hours wfo running from cast piston on a highly strung 125 seems pretty optimistic?
Perhaps 5 hours between pistons on an air cooled  MX bike would be safer?

Was MY 15 hours work in the cylinder not the piston. Piston lasted 3 blips on the throttle

worse it was a love job AND I said find  better piston
