Maybe you should enter your Granny in next year's race then. The prizemoney is really good.

The skill of the Australia and NZ drivers is equal to the best in the World and the track at Bathurst is one of the most challenging in the World. Please don't comment unless you have been to Bathurst and seen how step the track is. I have only been there once for races, at Easter on 1971 for the bikes and cars. I have also been to the MX track once for an Australian MX Championship round. Mt Panorama is a special place and deserves the praise it gets.

I will comment on what i want when i want, its a forum ;)  Don't assume where i have and haven't been  i don't doubt the skill of Australasian drivers its the hype of those modified taxis i dont like . Been to the track and yes its spectacular and i assume you mean steep , just a shame its wasted on a one brand 2 badge race . Whenever they have let other brands into that race in they have kicked arse and been promptly kicked out . i would enter Gran but she prefers cars with some prestige and pedigree  :D

Ken Watson recently put on his FB page how when the last time cars and bikes raced at the Easter 12hr he asked a couple of car bloke what you had to do to get a drive a car at Bathurst, he got a long winded spiel about how dangerous it was and was only for skilled and experienced drivers yada yada yada. Ken asked what was their best lap time over the weekend, after that he told them how he did a faster lap time(held lap record for a year) on a 250cc Production bike that he bought the week before for $2000.

Only thing that would be scary in a car would be a multiple roll over and a fire.

Behave yourself Jim >:(. I haven't got much interest in touring car racing any more.....I don't really know why but perhaps it's the two brand thing. I hadn't watched any racing since last years Bathurst so seeing that I've got the Cheney in the family room I settled in to watch the whole race while tinkering with my bike. Well, it got me in, especially those last 20 odd laps. I'd like to see less emphasis on bullshit pit stops and less of Cromley but now that Volvo and possibly Chrysler are coming into the fold to join the 'big four' it might win me fully back into the fold.
The Jaguar win in 1986 and the sound of the V12 pulling  big revs down con rod influenced me so much that I now own a Walkinshaw Jaguar XJ-S. I'd love to see Jaguar come back into the class but being a closet Mopar man I'll be content to see a couple of big Hemi 300C's in the mix.

That seems to be the positive theme to this "the last 20 odd laps " why bother with the other 140 laps  ??? with todays taxis costing a small fortune and in theory being reliable whats the point  ???
In years gone by when the cars were simillar to the production models reliability came into i. Maybe if it was a single driver for the entire race then driver fatigue could be considered , but as it is a driver does a stint then gets out and is treated like a pampered pooch and refreshed with whatever he desires before he gets back in for another wobble  :D

I used to watch the event and enjoyed it when other marques were involved , but IMHO todays effort as with modern MX is a watered down version of a once great sporting event  ::)

I understand some are passionate about the event and good luck to them  :)

Funny how it was a Aussie/Kiwi win again......ol' Richards isn't a patch on his Dad though. I went in 84...last of the group C's...awesome weekend.....the turbo Bluebird got pole but Brocky won!!!! 8)

Did you see the old Jim get a second place in the 66 Falcon in the Historic Touring Cars on Saturday? I know that the new rules allow for upgraded engines,brakes etc but the little Falcon has only 289 cubic inches against the 350's and big blocks around him. He's a great driver in a great little car.

The Nissans weren't banned after there second win. The rules changed away from the International Group A rules because they had become too expensive and required the manufacturers to make homologation specials. It had become the manufacturer willing to spend the most won.

All forms of Motorsport now have restrictive rules to contain spending, even F1 and Moto GP.

Of course the best Top Ten Shootout lap at Bathurst was Kevin Bartlett in the Channel Nine Camaro in the rain. Kevin is also a fan of Vintage MX. I have seen at two Classic Dirts at Conondale. He rode there on a BMW. A lot of the Touring Car driver love dirt bikes. Craig Lowdnes has said he would love to race one, but his Team (contract) won't permit it.

Just a side note, I think Greg Hansford still holds the 350cc lap record at Bathurst. I think the time is faster than the current Touring Car lap record. Of course the fastest time there is by Jensen Button in a McLaren F1 car.
