carby T vent kit....fact or fiction?
« on: August 02, 2013, 03:38:02 pm »
I spotted this kit on eBay and it roused my curiosity as to whether it's a good thing or just another crock of technical bullshit . Anybody tried it?

They do work Mark but you dont need the fancy kit you can just put a T piece in your original hoses and put your vent hoses above the float bowl. I dont think they are nessercery on vintage tracks , they do stop bogging on landings from big jumps .

I don't even "T" mine - just join the two up over the top and cut some small slices out of the side with the stanley knife. If you're interested Mark I can sell you the kit for only $199.99 + p&h. Just hit the "buy it now" button.

Dellorto carbs on trials bike use the same system as you describe  Pete but loop under the carb, seems to work except in deep water

Have a look at a modern Keihin PWK carb at some stage, they have vent hoses exiting straight up as well as sideways to loop down to the rear of the cases so the manufacturers must think there is something in it

They're great for water crossings - stops the rapidly cooling air in the carb from sucking water up the vent hoses. I got stopped in a case-deep creek crossing that caused me some undue stress at the four day...

Never felt the need on an MX track. Then again, most modern carbs have the T-pieces effectively built in to the carb body.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Check your pm,s Firko , Tim came good with a heap of stuff.

To stop water getting in the carb via hoses we used to loop them up over the carb and down the other side .
Seemed to work ok.
