Cheney TM400 on Marks Swap
« on: March 17, 2013, 03:52:15 pm »
Cheney seemed to have made a fair few of these-far more than for the Yamaha like mine. The sellere takes a bit of liberty stating "Have document proof this is the same frame as used on the 73 RN 400 Suzuki works bikes", which is close close but not quite right. In 1969 Olle Petterson was signed by Suzuki to develop their works motocross tackle and while at a meeting in the UK saw Tommy Ledbitter going well on his RH68 engined Cheney. Petterson rode the bike, loved it and armed with Suzuki money bought the bike and shipped it to Japan. The first series of RH & RN 70-74 frames were copied from the Cheney frame but Cheney didn't build them.

last one I saw come up I just missed, frame was NOS and it was $1700. I missed the TM400 one but the same guy offered me NOS XL350 frame so I bought that instead.

You wonder how many unfinished frames are lying about the world as my BSA was also just frame and shocks.

What did they say about the Cheney TM400 .... handled like a dog on polished lino  ;D

My uncle had one back in the day, he added 'rabid' dog to the description.

Dead dog racing ships out of Oregon and charges $800 to bring a bike in.
