Pity you look like you are a red blood, as when it comes to 500 motors their can only be one king in my opinion - KTM! (although never experienced the legendary Maico)
Magnificent grunt - just turn the dial on the right 'bar as to how much torque you wanted - instantly!
I rode a couple CR 500's, I remember one ride in particular. At a familiar track, a friend said "here ya go" so I had a ride of his CR. One section I loved - a right hand power on sweeper - a steer with the back wheel sort of corner. Each lap I was lovin' this CR getting more and more brave when all of a sudden - POW! Steered me right over the highside and into the dirt! It was like a light switch!
They are a sweet looking thing though, always had a soft spot for Hondas.
