rm250 engine cases
« on: March 18, 2008, 04:36:15 pm »
Hi guys . I have started a restoration on RM250E and have just noticed that the bottom engine mount hole in the cases has elongated. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do? should I worry or not. Should I try and source another set of cases? All the other engine mounts are in good shape

Don't worry about it just use spring washers and nyloc nuts and make sure they are torqued up nice and tight
Ban BLACK rims NOW

If it was bad and there was enough material around the hole I'd bolt the cases tightly in the frame and then bore a nice new hole and up the size of the bolt. If it's not bad do the above and keep a check on it. Also check the inside side clearance..chances are if it (the motor) was real loose it's not only elongated the hole but the cases maybe a fraction narrower now too :o in the day suzuki recommended shimming this gap between the cases and the frame with suitable flat washers or shims as they referred to them ;)

I remember reading an article about the RM250T-which I had just bought new-and the engine mounting bolts were of a smaller diameter to the case holes. This, they said, was the cause of some broken engine mounts. As the other guys have stated, drilling out and going larger or shimming out -both will work.I just rebuilt a 125D with ovalled front engine mounts and worn cases from the movement here-I just shimmed it out and used nyloc nuts with loctite and all good for about 2 years now.
