back in 84 jobe was one of my idols
i used to cut out all the pictures of the works bike from the magazines
(still have them) 
who would have thought that 24 years later i would see this bike sit on it
i even rolled down a hill 
how cool is that i just have to work on him for a ride
and my life would be complete

    I reckon that Holeshot Buddy could do an exact re-enactment of Jobe's jump, by jumping over Big Bill on the CR500 , off drunks hill at Conondale  . Just let me know when its going to happen , so I can have my camera ready  .

    From what I have read , Jobe was not the first rider to clear this jump on the day . A bloke called Phil Larson (?) jumped it first & a few others did as well , before Jobe's pass on Malherbe . The FIM then banned multiple jumps on GP tracks . A broken leg for a rider the standard of Geboers would have prompted their decision .

Trouble is the greyer russels hair gets, the slower he's getting  :'(
Plus the last time he tried a big jump on the "Green Meanie"
it broke the rear suspension link and nearly killed him!

Here is another shot of Jobe's pass on Malherbe taken from another angle . I pinched it from the MXTRAX.UK vintage forum , so I hope the photographer doesn't mind . Because it has already been shown on the world wide web , I figure that it is fair game .

very trick sand cast engine.

That shot doesn't look anywhere near as impressive from front on through a longer lens.................

Yep, the camera angle changes everything; the front on shot looks very do-able until you see it from the side.
However, the more I look at the side on shot the more I'm thinking the frame has been stretched or a wide angle lens was used...?
I'm not saying it wasn't a big jump, but the side on shot seems a little elongated.

But I'm prepared to be howled down as a Heretic - who knows a bit about photography?

Dear Mr. Wombat.
Yes, the side on shot was taken a wide angle lens which makes things look further away, higher in the air and the jumps further apart. A longer, or telephoto lens, makes things look closer together.
Still both very cool shots regardless.
