RM500 Rear Shock

Hi All, I am wanting to have a crack at stripping my rear shock, cleaning, painting and re-seal if required. Can anyone tell me if they have experience at re gassing nitrogen canisters, or where I can get this re gassed after I do the work?

i stripped and changed oil in my RM125 D shock.I took it to a tyre shop that has a nitrogen cylinder to pressurise it.

I have the luxury of being able to gas mine at work. Spec is 142 psi but I have run mine up to 280 psi to handle the extra load of a sidecar. This is about to be returned back to standard with a stock spring. Try a tyre shop like Bob Jane. They can charge up to that pressure. ;D

Thanks fellas, I called Bob Jane today, they can go up to 150psi. May have to fudge the rest as i dont have a gauge to go that high

I was just reading the instructions on the shock decal, and it states that max pressure is in fact 250KPa which is 36psi...........weird

142psi is straight out of the manual. Like I said, I have run mine at 280psi which is what is in it now. I'm not sure what the pressure on the decal means as I don't have one on mine. 150psi will be safe. A hydraulics work shop can charge them as well.

i put 150 psi in the RM125.
Not sure what would happen if you just pump it up with air?

The manual states a warning. Quote: do not exceed 20 kg/cm2 (284 psi) or the reservoir may rupture. After pressurizing the reservoir, the removal of the filler nozzle may cause some oil to be sprayed. Do not expose your face or body to the spray. Un quote. Hope this info is of some help.  ;D

I know of a suspension tuner who does just that whilst testing. It's cheap and easy to do "in the field" and nitorgen really only comes into it's own after around the 20 minute mark...

10 bar or 145lb of nitrogen is what most shocks run. Any decent motorcycle shop will have a nitrogen bottle to regas shocks.
