Bitten,I dont believe you have done too badly when it all comes down to the total.
A long distant relation got a Ducati in and cost him 14k , of course bike was less.  :-\
As was mentioned on the NZ-Aus thread-for new buyers take the time and no need to rush,,even though you want to go for a fang on it like yesterday  :P  ;D

I have taken a deep breath and will move forward

However I still need to build up the courage to tell my wife that her eternity ring will need to wait another year!!

Hmmm yeah i was also thinking it would be far cheaper to bring a bike in in separate parcels over the space of a few weeks. As long as you declare each parcel under $1000 worth and go with USPS you wont have any fees or GST.

That's not a bad idea.  Might cost you a $1,000 in postage but you would have it in two weeks and a lot less hassle.  Bottom end might be a bit weighty.
