Building a trailer
« on: September 17, 2010, 11:03:21 pm »
G'day viewers I'm building a trailer I was thinking if I have a cut out section in the front the bikes front wheel will slide in to it like a push bike stand at school. So then if I put a tie down around the back of the front wheel that would stop the downward pressure on the forks  and still hold the bike upright what do you blokes think  :-\  jimson

I think the important bit is to hold the back of the front wheel as well so that the steering is locked out. Otherwise even when they are tied in the bike tries to walk around. I have seen a few attempts at this and they haven't worked too well unless the wheel is really well held.

These things work well but I think they are around $70 so it starts to add up when you're buying 3 or 4

I have put some bits of wood in the bottom of my trailer for the bikes wheels to sit in, this stops the bike from sliding to the side, I still use tie downs with a fork brace or an old oil bottle. Works well for me ;D

From my expierence.
Tie the bike (chassis) down at the back and the front.
The oscillating movement of the rear shock doesn't help the seal head and shaft in the long term.
