Thanks holeshot buddy, I believe the owner of this bike was going to give you a call about this. Yeah we can still get the plates but we spotted the full kits in the US at about $70Au delivered but only to suit '87 onwards  :-\

http://www.barnettclutches.com/products/clutch_plates_springs.aspx?type=clutches_other&clutch_make=Kawasaki&clutch_cc=500

Looks like Barnett has the earlier ones as well-see above link, though you may find nos Kawasaki plates. I ran Barnett plate in my 92 KX250, worked great, they seem to work fine except in Maicos(where i always run stock plates).

Lozza, got a link to the place who rebonds them?

Thanks, James

Thanks James, we could probably hunt up a Barnett kit..I used Barnett plates in my RM's years ago and they were okay..nothing special but they worked.

This is the problem..a quote from a local kwak dealer for genuine '85 KX plates was around $250. Accessory plates were priced at $220. I then mentioned to my friend ( incidently his name is DJ but not the DJ on this forum) that I had seen plate kits on Ebay US delivered to my door for about $75. BIG DIFFERENCE!! This is why I am wondering if the later model plates will fit as there is a stack of them available where-as very little for the '85 specifically. Differing part numbers with no substitutions tells me they are a special deal that doesn't interchange but I was just wondering if someone had actually tried. It's all about cost as the parts aren't rare but genuine are expensive.

mmmm..still a little pricey thanks James..I was thinking more along the lines of something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NOS-Barnett-Kawasaki-Clutch-Kit-KX250-KX420-KX500_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35581QQihZ010QQitemZ200097216626QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1VQQtrksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247  but I still don't know the difference between the models..if I knew they definately don't fit then I'd have to look at the more expensive.

Holeshot Buddy, I do believe you know the bike and owner (DJ) last I spoke to him he was going to phone you directly..thanks!
