Ignition Timing
« on: June 07, 2010, 09:00:44 am »
Just interested if anyone has played around with, or has any idea's about different timing figures. I read an article that had a dyno test on a PE 250 that found the optimum power was obtained with the timing retarded 4 degrees from standard. I have tried this on my PE 250 and it certainly seems to run clean and crisp, plus start easily. Can't tell whether its quicker or not, but I guess if you do all the small things its got to be better overall. Any views one way or the other?

That's why they go to the dyno. The dyno knows the real answer unlike the notoriously unreliable bum dyno. Some engines want more advance some less also depends on the type of use it will get

What Lozza said.
Also every time an engine is bored out it runs rich so the carb needs jetting.
New after market muffler means jetting.
Different fuel from when the engine was designed can require altering the timing.
Lots a stuff after all the factory set the bike up for the average user.
