Can some body explain,what exactly wears on a swingarm? Where is the free play comming from?How do you make measurements if you were going to make  new swingarm bushes.

I can explain what wears, pivot bolts, the inner bushes/sleeves, the bearings or outer bushes and in some extreme cases the swingarms themselves get flogged out around the bearing which also creates play(usually on the left or drive side). Not knowing what bike it is I'd say the best bet for the bronze bush sizing would be buy an original bush or get the original bearing size and have it copied.

And while you have it out fit a grease nipple approx center of pivot ...... making sure it clear engine cases when suspension is comperssed

thank you for the helpfull advice.The bike is a bultaco alpina.I also have a metralla,the bushes look very much the same.I will get some sets made up. Inner and outer bushs',swing arm bolt]and I'll be sure and fit a grease nipple.Thanking you,paul.
