PE250B clutch
« on: November 29, 2016, 08:47:07 pm »
The clutch in my bike has the usual fibre plates but then two steel plates and the rest alloy, is this normal or aftermarket.

The alloys are stuffed so I'd like to replace them with steel. A bit more flywheel effect would suit me

Cheers

Brent

No problems Mick, My memory is worse than yours so you probably did tell me.....................

The bike is a great core to work from, most of the usually lost bits are there and there's no more required that I would expect from any 40 year old bike

I still owe you one

Alloy plates were optional 'race parts' usually. At least in the T/X/Z

parts list  shows 2 driven plates. 4 of 1 type and 1 of another. (total 5)

Yeah just checked

you probably have this which is aluminium

Part # = 21451-40001
Part Description = PLATE,CLUTCH DRIVEN

If you did happen to want Alloy plates, Barnett do them but they are 'cryodized' and ment to be a lot better than the plain OEM alloy plates. Lighter weight but more durable.

I put Barnett plates, aftermarket fibre plates and springs from Brintech. Does it matter if everything is not same or recommended that all parts are from one manufacturer

Thanks
Leon

I just use steel, the oil stays a lot cleaner, make sure the free lengths are in tolerance and of course all the steel and fibre plates are also in serviceable tolerance, havnt found the need for harder springs in a 250 ( so far no clutch slipping or grabbing) as long as the fingers arnt to worn should be good to go
