The usual weird long shot question but we have a lot of knowledge on here, so...
I have stripped the nut in the tailstock of my lathe (again)
I had it remade about 10 years back but it seems the guy that did it has closed up shop.
Trouble is I need a tap to make a new nut and I can't work out if it is Trapezoidal -14mm OD x 2.5 pitch or ACME - 9/16" x 10 TPI
Neither seems to come up as standard? Metric seems to be 14 x 3 and ACME seems to be either 1/2" OR 5/8"
Anyone know...
# how to tell for sure which one it is?
# Where I might buy a sleeve nut from?
# Who can make me a sleeve nut?
or #where I can buy a tap from?
oh yeah, it's left handed.

Thanks in advance
Not sure if this is what you are looking for http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brand-New-1PC-M14X3-Trapezoidal-Metric-Thread-Tap-/271550394893?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f39aa320d  I know it is made in china but it is a probably cheaper than what a machine shop will charge and if you look after it it will last you forever. You are not going to make thousands of nuts a day. I would make a new nut and lead screw using your own lathe, be creative. My TOS lathe does not have a dial on tail stock and the lead screw has right hand thread. Dont realy see reason why you can not have right  hand thread on tail stock lead screw. You pullingdown rather than pulling up when you drilling. You can also check cross slide lead screw thread to see if that is metric or imperial.

Wile E Morris! sometimes I feel more like the wild cat running around stupid while the rest of the world just dances around like Pepe Le Pew

All fixed now thanks to forum member giving me a good lead to an old school machinist who looked after me.
Thanks for the advice and links guys,
# The Chinese tap was a good price, the Qld. tool shop link wanted over $300 for a tap

# I could have machined it myself but it's pushing my skill set to the max, I can work a lathe okay but as a machinist I make a good Sheetmetal worker :o

Cheers

Now onto the next drama which is one of my welders gave up this week >:(
