Yz465 h front brake
« on: November 10, 2014, 08:55:34 pm »
Hi guys I just purchased a low hour 465 h matching numbers but after the fact I've realised it only has a single pull front brake not the twin leading as you would expect anyone seen this before

Is it a YZ or an IT?

What are the first 3 digits of the frame and engine number?

If it's a 1980 G Model YZ then it will be 3R5

If it's a 1980 G Model IT then it will be a 425cc and the code will be 3R8

If it's a 1981 H Model YZ then it will be 4V4

If it's a 1981 H Model IT then it will be a 465 and the code will be  4V6

The brake backing plates of many of the non-linkage (ie monoshock) YZ and IT Yamahas are interchangeable and many have been robbed of parts along the way :)

Hope this helps :)

Someone has robbed it, both the YZ465G & YZ465H came standard with twin leader.

Bit of a slap in the face, when some grub steals ya front brake but leaves the rest behind ;D ;D ;D

Even gets worse have a look on eBay for one $200 up wards  :-[    The 80 , 81 brake plate can be used on diffrent Yamaha models that's why the price is high.
You may be lucky and find one that someone doesn't no what they are worth good luck but..

As far as other models having the same backing plate, I done some research a while back & it's all a bit confusing, going off online fische which may be wrong :-\ or optional parts, maybe different markets had different specs but YZ125K&L,IT465J&K,YZ250G&H?? show up as the same part number, beware there are two different twin leader backing plates ;),This is the one for the YZ465H forks :)
Note the upper brake shoe pivot cam right next to the fork lug,the other type off YZ490/TT600 etc is a long way apart ;)

Oh yeah,Forgot that the YZ465H had fabricated steel brake arms & the YZ125K/L had cast alloy,or was it the other way round :-\

I don't agree with that Iain.
Although they are interchangeable, and a lot of them been changed ::)
My YZ/IT were already a year or two old when purchased.
But the YZ465G I had in the day still had punched, pressed and spot welded steel ones on it,,
So did the IT465H.

I believe the forged alloy ones did not arrive till the K models
The parts lists also support those memories.

Correct, my 465 had the steel brake arms & I picked up a 490 backplate just to get the alloy arms. The hole for the brake cable pin is smaller in the alloy arms so it needs opening up to use the 465 cable

The yz465 plate fits straight on the tt500 models f , g ,h models with no mods , front wheels are the same . fork brake lug in right spot.
The 465 plate may fit other Yamaha bikes for better brake power.
