PE 175

[GMC]

Mate needs a gear shaft for an 82 PE 175 (usual story, some one welded the gear lever on)

Any leads appreciated.

A mate was chasing one the same but he said he couldn't get one new   
Maybe he was looking in the wrong place , he ended up getting a good second hand one.
I did say to him if he couldn't get one he could get one  from another Suzuki model or other brand bike and make sure it's long enough and right diameter and cut it down to the same length as yours then weld it to the bracket from your old shaft.
It would be better not to use a Suzuki one because they have a large spline tooth and makes it limited for gear stick choices, other brands bikes have a fine spine and more choice of gear stick lengths etc

He tried one of the US mobs already, they took his money then couldn't supply.
I told him to try Suzuki direct but any good second hand ones considered.

What other Suzuki's come close?
I would have thought an RM 125 but they are different part No's!
He has one from a different model but it is shorter not longer.

My mate tryed alpha sports but no luck.
I did give him suzi spares ph number but I think he didn't have one but don't count on my memory.

I had thought of welding a new end on but was concerned about alignment, especially with the seal, that's a neat way you have of doing it.
I will chase him up next week to see how he got on Suzuki.

I use petes joint method to make long drills and use high grade silver solder on the joint

I use silver solder on my extension drills too Matt. Incredibly strong on a capillary joint like that. Would be ideal for a gearshaft as well, good thinking.

No worries Geoff. Not sure about the PE's but a lot of Yamaha's have the actual selector arm on a spine which makes it really easy to strip and set up in the lathe for boring.
