The Dodge and myself found the best way is pick any guard so long as it is the correct shape and have the tank and guards all painted at once in the same colour then stick to this same yellow on all the other tm's and early RM's. This saves matching anything and it means you can buy all those orange, red, yellow, silver or green genuine nos items listed cheaper than the repro items. I scored an orange genuine TM front guard from Thailand for about $15 and under $30 all up landed here to my door but that was a bargain that I've not seen since. For the rears we use the MCS accessory jobs as they are pretty much identical to genuine TM costing a fraction of the price and available locally. As for painting the plastics and inner rears, after 18 months of use they still all look good with a high gloss with next to no scratching or chipping.
