Fark! Ive had a few close calls with grinders. I actually had a 9" cut off explode all around me once while cutting a C purlin on a shed I was building. It didn't jam or anything. It just let go for no apparent reason. I didn't get a mark on me but geezus it taught me to show the bloody thing some respect.

Then there was the time I was using the 4" grinder wheel wearing a flanno that wasn't tucked in and the grinder grabbed hold of the shirt, ripped the tool out of my hands and run up my guts heading straight for the throat. Luckily the shirt jammed the sucker before it could do real damage. I've got a good scar on my guts from the graze though.

Even using the flapper discs is fraught with danger. I've still got a few fresh wounds on my hand from just touching flesh for a nano second while holding the piece I was sanding.

It took a while for the humble quad bike to overtake the grinder as the number 1 cause of serious injury on farms. And for good bloody reason!

A few years back they brought out a 4' saw blade that you could fit to your grinder for those "fiddly jobs in tight spaces" now if you think grinding blades are dangerouse think about what these suckers could do.

Geez your right, that is a deadset horror story whating to happen :'( no retractable guard.
What were they thinking

Good thread, it has me thinking, prevention is better than cure.
I will have a young grandson in my shed soon enough.

I can lock the door for now

But I will now get a secure cabinet for these weapon of flesh and bone destruction.

And lockout the power supply on lathes, borer, miller, bench grinder etc.

Never been so grateful for a thread in my life.
