i have a new pvl that has a very weak spark. Is there any way to check the ignition

The most likely cause is a bad earth also the PVLs do have a low spark at very low speed (kicking speed) but a fat strong spark once at idle or above.

Mont. is right on both counts but I was going to take you there more eventually.


To answer the second part of your question is to use a Peak Volt meter on the coil and check for Ac voltages of around 150.


No one has a PV meter unless at a shop but a Multimeter averages the sine wave and may show about 70vAC on kick over... connect it to the coil input wire and earth...

Fitted two PVLs last week and a pretty easy system..

Don't use a resistor plug god a start.  Use an egv

I think you will find that the PVL instructions specifically say not to use an 'egv' plug from memory. A resistor plug is OK but not the best. It depends on the PVL is it analog or digital?

Just to clarify that a multimeter does not average the AC wave form as the average of any sine wave is zero it actually measures the RMS value which is the 'root mean square' of the wave which is .707 of the peak value. so if you measure measure 70 volts on the multimeter (RMS) multiply by 1.414 (for a pure sine wave) to calculate the peak value. Not trying to be a smart arse just thought I would clarify as electrical stuff is sometime difficult to explain.

Jake, to what motor have you mounted the PVL ?
And what tracks / usage do you intend ?
