'74 WR400 output shaft end float
« on: May 19, 2011, 08:47:53 pm »
Can anyone please tell me what correct end float should be on output shaft ( sprocket shaft) for '74 WR400 6 speed?

I thought shaft had excessive end float when I acquired it.Trans has been apart before so I disassembled and checked all parts against parts book and fitted new bearings yet shaft end float still  seems excessive compared with my '75 CR360GP 6 speed which has almost no end float.  ???

My freshly rebuilt '74 CR400 measures about 0.025" endplay. I looked at two 400 parts bikes and they are about the same.

my 73 cr250 with splined shaft update -- same box I think has very little play -- would not be 20 thou'

If you've got more somethings probably not right -- there are hardened steel shims/washers on the shaft to space everything out and with them in place my box has very little play
