Eligible front brake
« on: October 23, 2010, 09:30:19 pm »
Looking to put a braked front wheel into my weslake godden. Notice some use honda (postie etc) front hubs. A tt225 wheel slots in very easily, but as its off a late model bike how would this effect eligibilty. Interested, as it has no technical advantage over others I've seen and I can buy a brand new 2010 honda hub at a much higher price. Wondering how much whoha it would create, which to me is a pain in the arse as I help to form the wedge at the opposite end to the pointy part if you get my drift.

Hey Ross...Have you considered a 23'' Honda XL wheel? They're as common as shite and nobody seems to worry about slider brake eligibility. It'd probably fit in with the Wessy's era give or take a year or two anyway.

the slider race is pre85 yes a lot use the posty front brake its ok the honda 23" is ok as well i will be putting 1 in my per78 long tracker.a godden wessie might be evo or pre 85 if you want to race with mx bikes at the nats. some just use a speedway front and just a braked rear.

Hey Firko and Jim, will probably go on the hunt for the xl front wheel,  have tried to get something original eg from a hagon but I keep running into dead ends. Jim, Weslake is a MK 1 running in a 78 Godden frame, its a centre port longtracker I bought from Donny Stafford in early 1978, Its stamped in the LHS , near the headstem, 7708115 which I'm taking as manufactured in August 1977 and it was the 115th for the year/period. I'm told they're a bit rare. Traded in my Cole Elstar to buy it which I had bought from Don a season earlier. Nice looking bike but didn't seem to have the punch required. Wish I'd chucked it in the back of the shed now! Thought I'd go with the braked front as the rear setup was going to be just as difficult to setup with sprocket alignment etc. Any ideas for a rear hub? Anyway will ring around the wreckers and see what they have. Ta for the input.
