CZ spoke lengths
« on: May 08, 2010, 08:06:21 pm »
does anyone have any CZ rear wheel spokes lying around that they're able to measure for me? The hub I've got is late mid 60's -early 70's.

Cheers

I have a brand new set of stainless steel HD spokes and nipples for a 1973 rear wheel if that helps.

Cool, any chance I could get you to measure some spokes when you get the time?

I was going to try and buy some off-the-shelf. Always easier if you know what you need, rather than relying on the person you're buying them off.

You ended up getting yours from Titmans didn't you?

cheers

74 parts book says LH M4x199  RH M4x147, should be the same looking at that hub. I don't know if the early ones with the riveted sprocket like I've got are different
Hope this is a help

cheers tony,

I'm assuming those measurements are from the end of the threaded section to the start of the bend? and they'd all be the same 45 degree bend?

My guess would be from the bend to the end, list only gives left & right lengths with the wheel needing 18 per side. Went out to garage & did a quick check on the earlier wheel, looked like those numbers were about right. Couldn't be sure on the bend but 45 degrees probably isn't too far out

My 2 cents:  Charlie Richardson from CR High Performance in the US sells sets of custom tapered Buchanan spokes for CZ rear wheels.

I was cracking hubs every other race until I started running them.  Apparently the taper allows just enough flex to take a bit of stress away from the magnesium hub.  Completely fixed the problem for me.
