MT 250 hot up
« on: October 19, 2009, 06:34:52 am »
I have purchased 2 complete MT 250s in the past few months for a hugh sum of $300.00 for the pair ,they even both go I am fixing one up at the moment for a fella in the club to make up the numbers in pre 75 any ideas on how to make it go a bit harder it starts and runs beatifully but seems to be flat out at about 60 .It does have a small carby and a pretty restrictive pipe but they both are the same so I take it that is how they came out.
Any Ideas

cheers

Buy a CR cylinder, head, pipe & carby, open up the airbox, then fit a 125M CDI system.

I wouldn't do any of the above,I stick with the MT stuff, as that can be tweeked to work very well. Any CDI is better tham points but tiny flywheels don't make faster engines. Beware the gearbox is a bit fragile..................................

I must say that the cr125 ignition that bigk put on my 250 works a treat.
Aren't the mt's a fair bit heavier as well? A diet would help if that is the case.

Thanks for the avise especially the gear box thing, all early honda stuff must have crap gearboxs my XL has to be babied a bit.
Lozza tell me more about treeking the MT stuff as it is not really a bike I will ride but I would like to get it to run to its protentional and I think CR parts will be hard to find and pricy to I bet.

Cheers

FBR there is as always 3 or 4 areas to look at, carb ignition, ports and pipe. Ask Noel about his MT IIRC one thing that unleashed about 1500 rpm and a lot of midrange was a sorted cylinder head.
With the MT cylinder, with what we know today you can go far better than the CR cylinder will ever go.Stock carb is tiny but works very well, just depends on how far you want to go and the intended use
