Tech Talk / Re: Help bike won't run clean
« on: March 03, 2012, 11:05:51 pm »
I bet it is the stator, I had the same problem with my RM250A. The bike was running fine, pulled it down for a freshen up, new piston/rings clean carb fit new boyesen reeds etc. put it back together and the bike was hard to start, pulled the barrel off pulled the carb appart put different piston in put standard reeds back in, still no good wont run cleanly has no power. At this stage I am about to set fire to the peice of shit. I decided to have the stator rewound and tested and hey presto the bike starts first kick now and has shitloads more power than ever before. The bloke that rebuilt the stator reckons he hears this story all the time, apparently the new compression put the flame out if the stator is a bit tired.

If you are in brisbane you can borrow my stator to test if you like, they might be the same.

Tech Talk / RL hubs on RM
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:40:33 pm »
Hi all,

this may be a silly question, but ill ask any way. I have just bought an RL250 basket case that came with brand new Excell rims spoked too NOS RL hubs, they are too pretty to go on the RL at the moment so I was thinking of using them on my RM250A, do you think they will fit without too much pissin around?

Thanks Brian....

Twinshock Trials / RL250 project
« on: January 29, 2012, 08:20:33 pm »
Hi all, I have just picked up an 1974 RL250 as my first trials project, I got a pair of fibreglass Beamish side covers with the bike but prefer the original ones, so if any one knows where after market RL side covers can be found please let me know. Also I need front and rear guards and carb to airbox hose. Any help or wisdom RE these bikes would be great.

Thanks Brian

General Discussion / Re: Casey Stoner back in action this weekend

+1 well said

My $0.02

Congratulations Casey a great win. He is certainly in a class above on the Honda.

Rossi has slipped even further down in my view. The way he was going on you'd have thought he had won the race! Let's face it he was gifted third place and waving to the crowd and carrying on during the national anthem show's how little respect he shows for anything other than his self promotion. Notwithstanding his previous career achievements I am yet to see him show the same amount of talent that we saw from Stoner on the same bike. Until he can make that pile of dog doo run at the front, on it's own merits, he will remain a circus act in my view.

Cheers
Shaun

Had the same problem with my RM250A it was the fuel. The bike absolutley hated Shell and Bp wasnt much better I went back to Caltex vortex and have had no problems since. I also went through similar problems with a mildly worked SR500 years ago, the only fuel it wouldnt ping on was the Vortex.

I hope it is as simple as this for you Good Luck

« on: March 26, 2011, 07:36:46 pm »
Thanks for the reply Shortshifter,

I have numbers on but not yellow back grounds. Do you think they will allow this for tomorrow and I will bring it up to comply for the next round?? or should I just leave it off the trailer?? You know the story usuall working till midnight stuff on another bike, I was just taking the TT to take up time in between races.

Thanks again Brian

Competition / QVMX AT ROCKSBERG TOMORROW BIKE APPROPRIATNESS?????
« on: March 26, 2011, 06:11:43 pm »
Hi,

I was wanting to take my 87 TT600 to the QVMX event at Rocksberg tomorrow and was wondering if I take off all the road gear, indicators, side stand, and tail light, is it OK just to tape up the front headlight as I have seen this done at flat track events, and dont realy want to take it off as its a good place to put the numbers on.

Tech Talk / Re: RM250A HELP NEEDED
« on: March 20, 2011, 09:28:26 pm »
Hi all,

I finally got it sorted, the problem was the stator. The bloke who rewound it for me said he hears the same story all the time, bike is running well, owner freshens up top end/full rebuild and bike wont go anymore. Apparantley the new compression puts out the flame/spark resulting in anything from very poor performance and flooding symptoms to no spark at all. $160.00 got my stator rewound, all new wiring and plugs and a new coil. The bike starts first kick and goes better than it ever has as long as i have ownd it.

I used stock reed stops. I fitted reeds in the following order.

1*large reed
2*small reed
3*reed stop

Wanted / Re: RM250A coil
« on: January 06, 2011, 09:34:10 pm »
Still need a coil PLEASE   :( :(

I have put an XT250 coil on and seem to have spark but the bike has the barrel off so I cant test if it will run with this coil. Can any one see why this would be a problem?

thanks
Brian
