I am in need of a clutch hub shaft to suit a 74 Maico. It has snapped in two pieces on the threaded retaining nut. Can anybody help?  Free accomodation at my place for the pre 75 titles in Pirie for the answer to this problem

General Discussion / Re: RIP Fast Freddy Richards

Goodbye Fast Freddie, your friendship was something I will treasure until my time comes too. Seems the adage of three score and ten is in the ballpark for a guy who lived as large a lifestyle as you.
Fred and Clarky were inseparable and could be found anywhere in Australia at vintage meetings and they loved roughing it outa the F100 in the early days. They called a spade a spade and most of their humour was a result of this and was a constant in their company. A thick skin was an essential .
A visiting Swede in 1995 called Fred (the fastest 50yr old in the world) after he beat him for the Aussie title and it was an accolade that stuck.  R.I.P mate.

Honda / Re: CR 125M Problem. No Grunt whatsoever

Check the needle and i'm betting it has the wrong one in it. It happened to me once and for the life of me couldn't work out what I had done . I had got an M2 needle mixed up with an M1 while stuffing around and it had a richer profile. I couldn't tell until I lined them up side by side. The original CRM1 needle is fatter in diameter on the bottom to mid.  Hope this is of some help.

You should have dragged old Bob Vourmard out of retirement Geoff. He wouldn't have been satisfied until he jumped a foot further than you, even if he face planted trying ::)! Did he come out for a look over the weekend?
Didn't see him Firko but i reckon he wouldn't have missed this event for anything.  We spoke about a week beforehand and chewed over a few old times etc and i thought wow where have the last 20 yrs gone.  ???  There's no doubting he would have Mark, his racers brain would have took over!

Bob Voumard is living on Yorke Peninsular (Maitland) and when I spoke with him last year he was as fit as a fiddle (my first racing bike was his Greeves).  Flinky is still getting around Pirie and until last year was riding vets, but a back problem has forced him into retirement; sad for some-one so young  :'(
Hey Chris and Firko, i came across this article and had to reply to the rumours you blokes have been spreading about us (LOL).  Get reports on Bob from time to time and its all good since his prostate problem .  I have never raced a more fierce competitor and his prescence made people know it was going to be a serious affair at the pointy end of the field.  Firko, Yamaha? (you wish) Bob won his Aussie title in Collie W.A on a 250 CZ ,your time is about right. Not too sure of the bikes he has left but Vic (Saccottio) bought some to put alongside mine.  One of them was that 75 Falta still in the crate. My health is good now after a bout  with leukemia and am still riding (could you get better therapy)    ........cheers Geoff

Maico / Re: The humble 250 Maico
« on: October 06, 2008, 07:12:39 pm »

reply to paul,jc,t250k,on this.  measured my 250 barrel with magnum piston.
ex port=47mill diam
in port=37mill diam
top of gudgeon to top of piston =33mill
ring is 2mill from top of piston
i think we are getting confused here. do not have 326 any more... sold whole bike to vic saccottio to add to his pre 75 collection here in s.a.  the vintage scene has died a little here since we hava all gotten older but it would be nice to still have a ride sometimes.  back to the 250 barrel, head, and piston, does anyone want to buy it. the specs are as above, the piston and bore has done about  1 hour and a few marks on top of piston as i mentioned previously

Maico / Re: The humble 250 Maico

reading between the lines there are people that want their 250"s to be quicker. yes you could do all the afore mentioned things but i found timing and jetting to be important.........or you could try the barrel and head keith built for me along with the 326 in the early nineties. it uses a 250 magnum piston in a 73 radial barrel.  deck heights had to be altered so transfer ports lined up and head modified to get it back to same compression. you can see  4 little cutouts in the fins on the head that he used so he could spin it in the lathe.  this setup allowed me to turn the 326 into a 250 but the 326 was a better holeshot bike and i never got to rideit that often although i liked it , better than the less forgiving 400 i tried. performance wise from memory it was quick and had useable power. keith wasnt sure how it would go but i assurred him he got it right.  it has been taken out of the cupboard since accidently coming across the 326 article and is looking for a new home.email if interested............geoff
