Wanted / 1983/84 Suzuki RM250 front brake plate & DLS assembly
« on: May 10, 2016, 10:44:33 am »
Trying to do the 43mm fork conversion to a RM250T. The 43mm forks & triples are not so hard to find but the brake assembly is the hard bit.
Thanks- Steve

Suzuki / RM T triple clamp swap.
« on: May 10, 2016, 10:36:41 am »
I have searched back through many threads about fitting 43mm triple clamps to a RM250 T and there is lots of info on the subject.
But there are a couple of things that I am still vague on and someone may help me with.
The key problem seems to be fitting a tapered bearing into the old frame and the length of the new stem compared to the length of the steering head in the frame ?
Many people seem to change steering stems as that may be easier than machining the new steering stem to fit the old frame.
If the steering stem needs to needs pressed out of the bottom triple which way does it press out, Up or Down.? Do all year models press the same way ?
Is there any specific year / models of 43mm clamps that retrofit to a T model better that others. Triple clamp sets from 1984 to 1988 RM250 seem reasonably common on Ebay so I may as well get one that works well.
I guess much of it becomes obvious when I have 43mm triples in one had and a T frame in the other.
Thanks - Steve

Suzuki / 89-92 RM250 water pump
« on: January 18, 2016, 12:11:36 am »
Anyone know why a google image search of the 89 - 92 model RM 250 shows 2 very different looking water pump housings on same year models. All the parts diagrams I look at show 1 style yet for sale on Ebay are 2 very diifferent looking covers ? Are they interchangeable . Does 1 supercede the other ?
Confused.

Is there a 1981 RM250X complete motor an any condition out there that someone might part with ?

Suzuki / RM 250 T

I have the piston out of the 250 T. It is a single ring Suzuki branded item. I can see no numbers stamped onto the crown. Does this mean it is an original non oversize ? Do oversize Suzuki pistons have something like .5 stamped on them ?
The rest of the bike was original when I got it - sprockets, chain, even the tyres.

Suzuki / RM465 ?
« on: December 09, 2013, 10:20:11 am »
I started racing VMX last year on a RM250 T and quite like it. I want to get a 2nd bike so I get more track time at meetings. From what I have seen it is not uncommon for race organisers to run the 250 evos together with the 250 linkers or open evos. So if I get a 465 linker I should be safe from missing out because of mixed classes. I had a 250 X in 1982 and liked it. Is there anything I should know about 465s before I spend money, unobtainable parts? hard to fix stuff ?
Thanks

General Discussion / TradeMe 465

Does anyone know any history of the ex Craig Coleman RM 465 on TradeMe NZ?. I am looking for a 2nd ride for the upcoming Johnny Old MX. I imagine with the NZ VMX website suffering a massive spam attack some Kiwis may be reading this ???. Anyone know when that NZ forum might come back to life ?

Suzuki / Re: 1980 rm250 wheel spacing chain issues.
« on: September 25, 2013, 09:53:43 pm »
Regarding your back wheel rebuild. I got a pair of SM Pro rims and spoke kit from John Titman Racing. They have the specs for 1980 RM250 wheels on file and drill the rims to fit. I got stainless spoke with Ni plated nipples and they fitted perfectly. I made up the wheels my self and they have survived several hours riding with minimal loosening. If you are going to do it yourself try to get a picture of an original wheel to study the spoke cross pattern. The rear rim is a 2.15 x 18. The space between the very widest part of the rim and the inside face of the swing arm is 50mm on the left and 48 on the right and I took that measurement from my stockers before I took they apart. I run a 110 tyre and the nobs clear the chain easily. Put some kind of guard inside the left rear shock or the chain will eat the spring. My chain looks to run straight with those measurements with no signs of uneven wear on either sprocket or chainguide.
Do a google for vintage Suzuki parts and several US dealers have parts diagrams with all the spacers. I was able to order several which all arrived in the original little plastic bags with a big red S on them.
Good luck

Suzuki / Rm 250 T Forks
« on: May 21, 2013, 01:15:57 pm »
I have the forks out for new seals and a gold valve Kit. Forks are off, drained, caps off & springs out - what next to separate the leg from the tube ?. The 10mm allen bolt at the bottom of each leg is very tight but just spins. Please don't tell me I need a rattle gun or a super long socket extension ?

Suzuki / YSS shock RM250 T
« on: January 14, 2012, 09:26:34 pm »
Just got some YSS piggybacks. Nice product and great service from Walter, thanks
Fit is fine and they hold me off the ground but a couple of things someone may be able to advise.
Have to mount them with reservoir backwards as they touch the frame when pointed forward.
But now when the bike compresses they will rub hard on the side number plates -what is the cure?
The bike is a rider so will slowly carve up the alloy reservoir.
Have tried spacers ( 1 cm ) between side panel and frame tab.
Almost clears it now and would not notice to look or ride.
Could also trim sidepanels to clear but that would look odd and I have all OEM plastic so not keen.
Will post photo when I figure out how !

Suzuki / New RM
« on: December 31, 2010, 09:26:15 pm »
Recently bought a new RM to go with my 250T. An actual new one 2011 RM 450. By the way if you havent tried the latest generation of injected bikes you should. Never has so much power been so easy to use. But here is the strangest thing. Strip down a 2011 RM and straight away you notice design similarities to the 1980 version. You know the crappy pressed steel bracket behind the triple clamps mounting the black box ? - Bingo, 31 years later same thing. How about a little rubber strap with 2 steel loops for the back of the tank ? - SNAP
And all those odd 10mm/8mm/12mm/14mm different bolts? - yup, still doing it. Do you think its possible that somewhere in the motoX design department the same engineers are still at it ?
