I am looking to off load my Maico 490 as I can no longer race MX.
I thought I would advertise it here before I put on e-bay in case anyone is interested.
Has only been raced at "Double in the Dirt"in Brisbane for the past 2 years.
Please pm me if interested.

Wanted / Re: road race wet weather tyres.

Firko,
You can still get new 18" wet weather Bridgestones. That's what they run on in VFR 400's race bikes. If you know anyone who races in the 400 class they should be able to put you on to some used wets.

I used to own one, a 99 model 500. I raced it for a few years.
Good fun bike to own and race.   Was one of two brought into Australia in 1999.

Photo of a bike that I put together in '83.
Had a great time racing it in Queensland.
Shows what you can do when you've got lots of time and no money.

The bike looks great. How is the pipe holding up? Wasn't sure how it would hold up when I made it. Hope all the welds have stayed together.
Are you still riding/racing it? Hope to get along to some QVMX rides and catch up with you when my knee gets stronger. Had an op last week.
Still have a '81 490. Wish it had an electric start.
Catch up with you sometime soon.

Hi Evo 550
Yes, I used to have an '84 and it was a '99 set up for motard.
Ims6201
I removed the XR forks and fitted a '84 CR 250 front end to it.
Made a new pipe, had the engine reconditioned, powdercoated the frame, new plastics and had a great time racing it for about 5 years.
Every where I went, people would take pictures and ask "what is it?".
Sorry I sold it on to finance other projects.
I enjoyed reconditioning it.   I reckon it was faster than the newer '99 model.

This is what it ended up looking like.
Raced it for a few years in Brisbane.
Sold it on to someone in Victoria.
Haven't heard any more about it.

The 500 gme you sold, did it have a Honda front end on it?
If it did, I ended up with it.

No they will not fit as the taper on the crank shaft is different on the 250 to the 490.
I am sure pvl part numbers are different from the 250 to 490 also.

HISTORY
Picture of bike when it was bought from Don Newells bike shop in Brisbane. Raced in a few C Grade motocross events, then set up for dirt track. Raced until '85. Bought a CR500 and sold the Maico for $750
It is now owned by Perry Morrison, General Manager of Suzuki Australia. Lucky I've got another one to replace it.
