For Sale / Re: TM 250 J Frame.
« on: July 25, 2013, 11:43:43 pm »
Here is a comparison I did on the TS250 1976 gear box against the TM250 box
After a lot of actual research I can confirm the following.

TS250 76 Counter shaft is the old version for TM (72)because it only has 12 teeth
1st driven gear same as 74 (29 teeth) not 75 (27 teeth)
2nd drive gear same as 74 (15 teeth)not 75(16 teeth)
2nd driven gear same as 74 (27 teeth)not 75(25 teeth)
4th drive gear same as 74 (21 teeth)not 75 (20 teeth)
5th drive gear same as 74 (23 teeth)not 75 (22 teeth)
Drive shaft is slightly different
Thrust washers are different may be because of the slightly different drive shaft
remove the neutral switch and swap washers accordingly
Primary gear on the clutch is different ?
And remove the taco drive from the oil pump

So, much closer to the TM250 74 internal however with the old style counter shaft.

Suzuki / Re: 74 Tm timing BTDC please

Not sure how the dial works

How ever to convert degrees in to mm you only need to know the diameter of the circle.

My stator plate is 120 mm O/D so 120 x 3.1416 = approx 377mm this is the circumference of the stator
so divide it by 360 and you have one degree then times it by 21.5 and you get 22.5 mm

Does that help

From the Clymer Manual (only lists RL AND TS 250)

on PEI modles, Ignition timing is set when the mark on the stator plate is centred at the top mounting screw
the figures given above are used to check the advance built into the black-box circuitry. These figures are checked using a degree wheel and a timing light.
Timing Inch (mm)16 degrees at 1000 RPM
Degrees (BTDC) 24 degrees at 6000 RPM

However in the specification section it statesTM 250 = 21.5 at 6000 RPM

the Suzuki 1972 service manual (the only one that I know of that is TM250 specific and have)
States 21.5 at 6000 rpm (BTDC)
Hope that helps

Freaky different shape and it looks like the 250 is larger.

The 125 has a long tapper to the shape on one end.
