My PE175 had a mesh in the belly wall of the pipe, after removal the only difference was a barely noticeable noise increase.

Although you probably didn't buy it from him and he is no longer a dealer, i would try to contact Newmann on Vital mx for advice on setting up the PVL, try the "old school " section.

He should be able to clarify the set up.

TTS is a good oil may not be the best, but most older bikes run that in the "olden day's"
I know you said the other bike runs good, but what fuel are you actually using?
Also, this suggestion of sanding the high spots on the piston sounds extreme, i would be checking the cylinder for roundness instead.

Way back, we used to slap a new piston and ring, super fuel, Castrol TT, warm the bike up, cool it down at home, do 1/2 dozen slow laps, cool it down, then go out and rip the shit out off it,

I am weary of your ignition, not the quality, rather the set up???

The sponge could be a sign of richness at other throttle openings,
You need to go back to some "base settings"

i would install a stock type cast piston, and Check the squish distance,

install the stock carb and jetting, maybe raise the needle and up a main size or two.

if i remember you have a funky ignition?, If so why not install the original ignition, or at least you must check the settings.

Another thought is that the cooling system, pump, is actually pumping, you say there is overflow, or is it overheating because there is no flow?

As they all say air leak test to be 100%

I feel for you….

No, not on a flywheel, although recently i had to replace the base on my magnetic dial indicator had lost its strength after 30 odd years.

General Discussion / Eligibility
« on: September 05, 2017, 04:18:12 pm »
G,day all,

I am building an 1980 RM Suzuki for EVO class, unfortunately i can not find a rear wheel that i require.

The 1981-1984 RM's rear wheel is plentiful ( still drum brake ), if fitted to my bike does this make it automatically ineligible,
or are the allowances made for interchange of scarce parts?.

Thanks Mark

Hi guys,

Modern Bars don't appear to have as much height as 1980 Rm bars in particular, what bend / type of bars are you using please?
I am tall so in the past on my modern bikes i had used Jimmy Button bend or the Tall Windham's, it looks like the older bars were taller again!

Hi Guy's thanks for your suggestions,

Only the RM125N 1979, a DR125SM and a TS185R Share the same Bolt pattern and 428 size,
50 tooth is my only off the size and luckily JT has this in El cheap steel or expensive Ally.

After i settle on the gearing i really need i will get a quality custom made up.

The phone number for the chain gang just rang through numerous times today ???

Hello,

Can i get some help finding a 50 or 51 tooth rear sprocket to suit a RM125 N 1979, 428 pitch.

I was hoping for an El Cheapo until i can decide on the final gearing.
Evilbay only shows 520 pitch.

What ever happened to the chain gang in Mulgrave, i used to go to his garage?

Regards Mark

Thanks Rocket,

1.85 it is.

Both the USA wheel's i am looking at have the casting damaged, the internal ring / seal that meshes up with a similar ring on the brake
backing plate, this stops water getting onto the brake pads.

I know it's not a big deal, its just if i am going to spend $250 i thought i could get a damage free hub.

I have also today found one in Australia $260  :'(  Rusty spokes, do you know anyone with spokes…..

Regards Mark

Hi Rocket,

I will keep it in mind, although finding a hub is still the issue, and thanks i can now see that the RM100's wheel is similar except the Rim is 1.85 rather than the 125's rim of 2.15, what width is your rim?

There is a couple of wheels on evil bay USA except they both have slight damage to the inner brake drum area.
I would not have thought that they would be so scarce.

Thanks Mark.
