Tech Talk / Re: Fuel Tanks Cracking

Thanks for the reply

Brought a Clarke tank for my 84 CR 500 and it's crap, the colour is way off and the fitment is shit also $$$$

Going to do a few tests

Put another 84 tank in a clip lock tub with 3 small tins of pre mix fuel around it.
Think after a week I'll spray the outside of the tank with pre mix in a Wurth bottle
Also after another week thinking of a fuel soaked rag stuffed inside the tank

« on: January 12, 2020, 06:57:21 pm »
Brought a 1988 KX 250 a few weeks ago.
Had one when I was younger it was my first motocross bike.

So are there any inherent problems to look out for ??
I'll get some pics up soon.
One engine mount was crack is that a common thing

Looking at new plastics who does the blue side covers ? also the intake manifold ?

Thanks

Tech Talk / Fuel Tanks Cracking

I have had a few fuel thanks crack lately, they had unblocked breathers and the fuel caps were loose.
Some of the tanks had not had fuel in them for some time

So does anyone have any tips to stop this.

Thanks

Honda / Re: 94 CR 250 non OEM crankshaft
« on: January 11, 2020, 09:13:06 pm »
I have never used a non OEM crankshaft. I can't really comment on them other than nothing fits/works like OEM

I have used a fair few HOT ROD rod kits with good success.
Most of the problem with CR cranks is the tin covers on the crank.
Serco in Brisbane have done a few re-rods for me lately with good results

You can also buy a 07 CR 250 crank new they don't have tin covers

Hope this helps

Thanks.

So not happy went to the shed today at lunch time and the fuel tank has split.
It has split in several places and was leaking fuel. The fuel cap was loose and the breather wasn't blocked

Well a mates 88 CR 500 and a 88 YZ 250 jumped the queue.

Still a bit to go but at least I can hear it run. Going to do the squish on the head after a bit of ride time.
Suspension is then off to get reworked and a decomp fitted to the head also recondition the front brakes.
