Hi the 250 and 125 are easily repaired using the orignal owner manuals quite comprehensive and good pictures when in doubt also showns bearing sizes and types.Just depends on what your issues are with your engine to the skill set needed.

The two main issues are sorting out the inherent gearbox problems and rebuilding the crank....May as well reco the lot whilst its in bits.

Good luck.
Apparently it’s difficult to find people to work on bikes. (And cars/houses)
Most people with experience on Elsinores would be even older than me!

It would appear you're right, 185 views on the post and only one reply!

I was wondering, how many dollars would need to be collected/donated, per year, for this site to be able to have an easy load option for pics, like most other websites? Maybe if a thread for each year could have a running total, so we know how it's going, I'm sure many would contribute.

So where did this get to?....Is there a dollar figure?...I'll contribute for sure, would be great to see more post and pics on this forum.

Gents,
I'm looking for a shop in Melbourne or central Vic to rebuild a 1973 Honda XL250 motor.....Would like to find someone who really knows these old bikes well.....Please don't suggest placing an ad on any of the facebook pages, just too much 'noise' there for me.

Cheers.

General Discussion / Re: Casting polyurethane components
« on: October 26, 2021, 09:37:06 pm »
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has had much success casting parts out of polyurethane? I have taken some time to design and fabricate a fibreglass mould to make an air boot that goes between the air box and carburettor and after some initial set backs I perfected a good process and well finished conical boot. Problem is that when I fit it to the carb after a day or so it splits! Funny thing is that it is the lightest push on fit and isn't being stretched, nor is it being stressed or distorted where it sits against the airbox - it just splits??
I'm very much a novice with this stuff, I rang the store where I got the mix and am told polyurethane can be funny like that? Suggestion is to use silicone rubber but I haven't had any exposure to that either?
Any help would be most appreciated.

You might be able to find what you need here....  https://dalchem.com.au/

Cannot go wrong with a set of old Koni,s. Thats what was used in the day. Easy to rebuild if the shafts are ok .

Ikon have new replacement seal caps, springs etc. Or they can help you with the Koni replicar shocks they make.

Do Koni still make bike shocks?

I will open the "batting". Any period correct shocks in good condition from q reputable maker may be ok. We need an idea of budget. Current brands which may be suitable might be: - YSS from Walter, Betor (MX spec not trials) etc

Thanks for the reply Peter!....As far as budget goes let say around a $1000- ?....As far as brands and manufactures go, I'm way out of touch on what's available hence this thread.
