« on: May 24, 2015, 06:22:08 pm »
What's a good starting point for squish set up on a RM500.
Doing a winter freshen up and have 2 different thickness base gaskets.

Bill, I have SM Pro's on my 500. Seem to be good. Also have torpedo7's on my 125 & 250 2 season's old and they are lasting well.

Wanted / Re: 1984 RM 250 Frame wanted

The 250 motor will not fit into the 125 frame. I tried it with my spare 125 frame and the head stay down tube is in the way plus the frame at the swing arm is different. From memory the swing arm needed to be modified as well. I ended up welding in new cradle tubes to my 250 frame.

I went two sizes leaner on the needle jet and one size down on the slide.

Do you remember what the needle was.?

Need a little advice.
Recently purchased a RM500D. First run was last weekend. Bike is a low hour one, all stock.
Currently running
280 main
35 idle
6FM46 needle. Top clip
Changed out the 45 idle jet for a 35 as it was running very rich down low. Still running too rich down low.
Once in the band it pulls well but the transition is a poor.
So my questions are.
Has anyone tried a 30 idle jet.?
Have just fitted a GMC exhaust system. Will this make it leaner.?
Haven't run it with the new exhaust yet.
I don't think the carb is worn as it's such a low hour bike. But I could be wrong.
What do you think.

Do you have a KTM300exc?
My 300 had about 2.3mm squish standard... soon reduced that

No, I have a TM300. Been running it with 0.9mm on race gas but am changing back to 1.2mm so I can run on pump fuel.

Cheers for that. I was thinking abit more myself. I run my 300 at 1.2 so thought a little more would be normal.
The motor looks be be original. Will measure to see what it is.

Best place to buy DG or PFR pipe and muffler for RM500D. Can they be mixed and matched.

Suzuki / RM250 shock
« on: March 02, 2014, 03:08:46 pm »
Anyone know the correct shock length for a 250E/F.
I never got one with the bike and have my 125E shock in at the moment but have been told they are different lengths.
Plus the standard shock sucks.
I have a later model remote shock of unknown origin that I may use but it is too long. I can shorten it at work and it has both rebound and compression adjustment so will be a cheap option.
Thanks in advance.

I nearly bought a 88' RM early in the year but didn't as all I heard were rumors of pre 91' coming in.
Now that there is a class I wish I had.
BTW I wasn't one of the we want crowd but I will race it if I find a bike.
I too was disapointed at the first round with the lack of entries in pre 91'. But I did bring along a work mate who bought a bike just for the class.

Thanks Lozza.
Does anyone know if the 125 and 250 rotors are different.
I have spark now but can not get the timming anywhere close.
I only have 3 125 rotors to try from.
I can only get it fire with the timing retarded so much it fires out the exhaust.
It's got me baffeld.
