Tech Talk / Re: Speedo repair
« on: May 22, 2017, 08:14:46 pm »
I’ve fixed a few over the years, the jumping around is the usually speed cup jamming up ( a magnet in an alloy housing) , the hardest part is getting the actual speedo to bits . Removing the trip counter knob is another issue. They are usually a L/H thread and a pain to undo. Once apart they are pretty basic, I’ve found a good clean of the dust out of the speed cup via compressed air and some light oil on the drive usually fixes them.

Hope some help

Tech Talk / Re: DYO Zinc plating
« on: September 09, 2016, 08:51:39 pm »
Never tried doing it myself , but if you ask the plating firm if you can wire up all the parts yourself so they just hang all the parts of the racks it makes it so much quicker . A standard restore takes about 10 m of cooper coated wire to get all the parts Zinc plated . I obtain for the wire from them and spend two hours fitting every nut , bolt , shaft , bracket etc  ( even spokes and nipples ) to the wire in 1 meter lengths. Then give it back  to them , get it back in 2 days still attached to the wire . All for 60 bucks .  I'm in Perth , so cant comment on other states . The wiring up takes the time , hanging on the racks takes minutes .

Don

I've use Hammerite smooth in the past  , it seems pretty flexible , the key to it is to use a etching primer first so the paint sticks . You can get it in Master stores  , same as Bunnings but not a good . Only issue is not to many colours to chose from .

Tech Talk / Suzuki PE or RM rear brake plate
« on: August 29, 2016, 09:25:51 pm »
Hi again

Need to pick a few brains , I notice over the week end while stripping it down the PE250 B i'm restoring   has a rear brake mod . The rear brake stay is fixed to the frame not the swinging arm and the brake hub is floating . It has a needle bearing  fitted to the brake plate  where the spindle passes through and a needle bearing where the brake stay is fitted to the brake plate . I've got a parts manual for a 77 B & micro fiches up to a  model T for reference . How ever none of show this type of plate plate . Can some out there enlighten me if its a RM fixture of the same era . I would post a pix if I could work how to post one.

Cheers for the help

Tech Talk / Suzuki PE 250 1977 Air Box
« on: August 24, 2016, 09:36:22 pm »
I'm starting to get on with a restore of the PE 250 B I purchased from Gumtree a few months ago & the original air box is rooted . Does a  RM air box of a similar year fit or does some one have one on a shelf  or in a box in there  shed they are willing to part with . It seems it a rare item to find , i'm a bit reluctant to make one from scratch .

Bike Talk / Re: Suzuki PE 250 Pistons
« on: July 07, 2016, 08:56:46 pm »
Cheers for reply's , That's why I was asking ,because  I found the pistons on gumtree . I've recently found out after starting to strip the motor it has a wiseco pistons fitted . Its the plastics that are being the biggest drama . Seems the B is an odd ball compared to the rest of the models .

Hi

Im staring a resto on a 1977 PE 250 , can some one advise if the pistons are interchangeable with other years & models ?  Will a piston from a PE 250 1980 PN 12110-40601 fit it ? So if there is any body out there  into PE's I would love to pick there brains about interchangeable parts from other years & the RM range around the same era's .
