Motocross Action magazine tested a Hallman DR370 in 1979. Doesn't show the seat tank all that well but here's a scan anyway:

More photos, this time the Myrtleford MX Open in 1981. All of the Junior class.

Starting line-up, Juniors.

Waiting for the elastic band to spring across, Juniors.

Start of a Juniors race. I remember getting a holeshot in one of these races and being so surprised that after the first few turns I slowed down, as I'd never been out in front before. Before long I was at the back of the pack, eating dust again  :)

Good view of the hill, as I chase the pack around in last place.

Number 14, Juniors.

It's a long way on that last lap while they all wait for you to get off the track to start the next race...

Couple of good races at Myrtleford.

cheers, Jady

Jady was that a Vic title meeting? looks like it atracted several NSW guys and a South Australian..
Wish I could remember if it was a title meeting or just an open, but a lot of the top guys were there.

Rutherglen Grasstrack 1981. Following day's newspaper story in the Border Morning Mail:

I managed to crash my RM125 into the two riders either side of me just off the starting line. Top left photo. They took off past me and somehow collided right in front of me. I had my head down and going flat out, so went straight into them and over the bars. Right in front of the grandstand. Even the local Channel 4 TV news got that one. There was much laughter apparently. I never did like the idea of disconnecting my brakes...

There are Marty Moates replica bikes around for sure. I had an RM500 in a 250 frame for quite a while until selling it 18 months ago. Don't know its true origins. It was a pretty good bike, but I never rode a standard RM500 to compare. I hope the fellow who bought it has kept it running.

I think the airbox is still in my shed somewhere, but trouble is we're overseas for a year and won't be back until January 2012. Sorry... if you can wait until then...?

For Sale / Re: 1984 RM500 Hybrid - Melbourne
« on: November 19, 2010, 09:55:51 pm »
A bloke came around for a look at this bike today. As fate would have it, I couldn't get the bike started while he was here.

The kickstart on the RM500 seems to be a weak point; the circlip holding the kickstart lever on kept unclipping and the entire lever would fall off. Fairly embarassing when you can't start your own bike when a prospective buyer is here for a look.

We ended up pushing it down the street, and it took off in a cloud of two-stroke smoke. A lady pushing a pram yelled abuse; this RM is fairly LOUD.. (Thanks Tony and brother for the help today!)

I forgot how hard it is sometimes to start an RM500... took many, many kicks, fresh fuel and a new spark plug. I did eventually get it started so I took a short video:

I got one bid on the eBay listing, so it looks like the bike might now be sold, but I haven't heard from them yet...

cheers
Jady

I'd rather not sell it either but we're heading overseas to live next year and I have to get rid of stuff... no good having a good dirt bike collecting dust in the shed. I'm suprised to see my eBay listing has 43 watchers and no bids... there sure are some spectators out there.

Cheers

I reckon you should list it under collectors bikes - not trail bikes - it doesn't show up for people who are looking at that era where you have it currently unless you specifically search for an RM500 - add another category.

That's a good idea, thanks mate :-)

Up on eBay once again:

Maybe it isn't the right season to sell an RM500?
