I've used this guy for a few times for DT stuff. Call him in the morning and I get the stuff the next day in Sydney from Brisbane. Parkes may be a little slower.

The humble DT175 has possibly put more smiles on young riders than anything else. Before Girls!!!!

Call him and he will drop the price because of Fleeeeebay costs.

Honda / Re: XR600 engine differences

I think the last two years also a chrome bore (1998 to2000) also.

My first XR600 a 88 model had 60+K on it when I sold it. Had 20K when I bought it. Only thing I did on it was cam chain ( one at 20K and one at 40k) in the 4 years I owned.

My current one, 95 Ballard 630 model has only done 30K. I won't sell it because I know that with a service, I could put the big tank on it head off anywhere for 4 weeks. The only real problem I have ever had with either 600 is that I don't get enough time on the bike.

There was no real troubles with gearboxes in the 600's but the early XR400 had gearbox problems.

The XR600 is like an old axe, keep the thing sharp and you can do anything with!

General Discussion / Re: Shannons auction result CT-175!!!

Jeeze

I have 1 complete CT1 and 1 complete CT2  and enough parts to make 2 CT3's.

Also, I still have the CT3 I brought the day before my 17th birthday in 1977 but now raced as a AT1.

Where do I find a sucker like the one that paid $7k for this one.

Hot up parts were from a variety of US companies. The best hot up tips was published in Trail and Track! Piston and port mods, pipe and carby stuff.

Original Yamaha gear sets and internals can be changed with lots of success (MX125 go straight in). There were at least 5 different heads that you could buy for them and they are all getting rare (dear in price)!

They were bullet proof once you got the ignition sorted. Here is one reasonably simple mod site! http://www.vintagemxracer.com/at1mxproject.html

Now, who wants a CT2 for, say $2K (I'll even throw in a hot Head!)

Is it for a racer or concourse? I fitted a DT125 / DT175 (about $30) on my racer and works fine.

Good luck

Tech Talk / Re: Dt2 fork replacement options??
« on: February 18, 2017, 10:03:58 pm »
If things become desperate, you might also look for RD250/350/400 fork.

34mm dia. but about 20mm shorter (I think).

Some new RD on Ebay are 21-3/8" Total Length so you may want to check originals.

Have a look at Nathan's explanation

There is usually a prefix number in the brake hub side.

He knock back $11k and its relisted.
Anything north of $10k he should have had pulled the buyers arm out of his socket getting the money!

From my observation the seller never gets the same amount again as they scare off all the "potential" buyers with their unreasonable expectations. They missed their chance on this one!

There are several ways of doing this but the simple way is always the best.

So check out this youtube site by Ken O' Conner. https://youtu.be/iKeg7z4x5JQ

I've used this in the last 5 rebuilds and it just works so easily

If You can find a piston for a YZ175C, that may do the job in an IT barrel. Ring pins are the only question I'd have ???

Use a tig. Less heat spread. Don't be temped to weld all way around. And that only if the spline holds the stop plate.

Woody, I was wrong. I looked at Crank 2 and not the whole unit. The weird thing is that the separate halves are use in IT175's to YZ100 but the full crank is;

This Yamaha 3R3-11400-00-00 CRANKSHAFT ASY is used on these models and components:

 1980 YZ125G CRANKSHAFT - PISTON YZ125G

 1982 YZ100J CRANKSHAFT - PISTON

 1983 YZ100K CRANKSHAFT-PISTON

Sorry for the mis-information. We learn a little each day.

This might sound stupid but pull the head off and see if the piston is in the right way.

A mate had an '80's model CR125 that sounded similar in many ways. Turns out that he did the simplest mistake in a rush. It ran but loaded up. Had us all scratching our head until in pure frustration he pulled it down only to fine the piston in the wrong way.
