Wanted / Re: Yamaha AG100 front hub (complete) Wanted early 70’s
« on: November 14, 2018, 12:26:02 PM »
I'm almost 99% sure this is the same hub as AT1 to DT125's and CT1 to DT175 (pre 75). And to go one step further, I think that's the same hub as a TTR125 small wheel.

You can still get them from Yamaha! or other sites

Yamaha / Re: Can a DT1MX race in Pre 70 classic motocross?
« on: November 04, 2018, 08:32:09 AM »
The best thing about any of the DT1-DT3 and RT1 -RT3 (MX as well) is that all the parts are pretty much available and most are interchangeable (even with later models). However con rods and pistons are different on the DT1.

In the AT1M, AT1MX, DT1MX and other "M or MX" variants they had different ratios in the gearbox, carby, pipe, small changes to cylinder and head. There are other minor changes also which you can find.

I run an RT3 bottom end in an RT3 frame, piston port cylinder, MX250A gear set (fits straight in), YZ250 clutch pack (extra plate), and a YZ400E stator and CDI. It's all pre 70 legal.

If you want the genuine DT1MX you have to chase the case numbers as Ian said. The GYT stuff is like rocking horse poo. But worth looking for just good luck finding it!

For Sale / Re: Wiesco Piston 83 84 XR500R Piston Kit

There are to many differences for it to work in earlier XL.

Pin is different, bore and stroke so the piston top to pin will also be different.

The Belgarda TT600E in itself wasn't a bad bike except just heavy!!!!! They were just border line trail bikes and more road orientated. I realise it might be younger than you 1993 limit. The TT600R was the better option.

What about putting a Belgarda 600E motor into the earlier (92 or 93) TT . (From what I have just read it fits!)

The electric leg option is starting to look good for my XR600. I've had them since 1994 and I would hate to part with the current one but the thought of kicking it on the side of a hill just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Yamaha / Re: dt1 question
« on: December 08, 2017, 11:27:31 AM »
Hi Kenny. You should stick with the stock DT1 barrel. The Reed cylinder has a different rod length and head?? so stick with what you have.

The tank and front wheel are classic DT1 stuff and the pipe heat shield seals it for me. It is a either a 70 or 71 model. (1968/69 had a square section swing arm)

I have attached a link for a photo. (not sure if it will work as I haven't posted anything with photos for a while. ( Thanks to Vandy for the original photo)

A good seat base is the hardest thing to find and the early ones are smaller than the DT2/3 I think. If yours is in OK nick then live with it. Clean it up, fix the rust and strengthen on the foam side.

Hot up tips and there are quite a few, RT1 carby, small porting clean up, complete ignition off a DT250/400 from 1977on (Stator, fly wheel and cdi needed). YZ and IT also fit but good luck finding one and no suitable lighting coil! All bolt straight in and give you almost total reliability. (The charging circuit from the lighting coil goes straight into old harness).

Put the engine and frame numbers up. That will clear any questions.

I'm in the middle of a DT3 rebuild for vintage plate rego so happy to share information.

Good luck with it.

Tech Talk / Re: dt or it175 cylinder sleeves?
« on: November 05, 2017, 04:18:44 PM »
If it's just a blank sleeve with a bore similar to a DT175 then try one of these. Cheap with no port holes. (Not sure of quality but maybe it's worth purchasing 1 to see if the experiment works!) A workshop with a good boring machine will get the cylinder to fit.

Tech Talk / Re: Sloppy 34mm forks
« on: October 30, 2017, 12:44:10 PM »
I will have the fork legs machined and these inserted in my RT1 racer over Christmas.

Any good machine shop should be able to do it!

If I had a half decent lathe I'd have a go myself. Can't be that hard!

Like OTH, I can only open the last one also.

I would really like to see the articals as I have several 250 / 360 motors and that sounds like a great challenge!

PS - your other posts the photos done work. SOS Lukeb1961!!!!

XR's Only in US have the big end bearing kit if you can find the rod. Plus other kits. I used them a few times and their mail service has been very quick.

If you contact them they may have a supplier for the rods.

Yamaha / Re: Semi-budget muckaround bike/nostalgiamobile, DT175G

I've used this guy for a few times for DT stuff. Call him in the morning and I get the stuff the next day in Sydney from Brisbane. Parkes may be a little slower.

http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/jono794

The humble DT175 has possibly put more smiles on young riders than anything else. Before Girls!!!!

Call him and he will drop the price because of Fleeeeebay costs.
