I haven't had an experience with them,

I wonder if they can be saved and set up to take Genuine Jetting components Husky 85? as per Hoony's lead?
Think I will join the FB groups for CR500 riders.

Keen to hear your results John.

$180 fking cheap option  :o,ok admittedly a one off, i bought an excess11 block for $50 from local wrecker, hacksawed in 1/2 to fit in shed stove, bingo 4 X 72mm bore sleeves (with flanges),look around, even wet sleeves from fergy tractors do pommy singles,(after external machining) there was a firm in tamworth doing spun cast iron sleeves (years ago  ::)), :P

What were you fitting them into Mick?

Really enjoying this thread Alex. Great stuff mate. I can honestly say I have learnt!

And some very clever input coming in as well. Great old dike bike forum :)

I always wondered why from a technical point of view, thanks Rob :)

Yes all rotors lose magnetic strength. especially ones from cooked engines. Heat is the enemy of Magnetism.
Compare identical new one to an old one by seeing seeing how many nails they pick up at room temperature.
Boil them in water and then see how many nails they pick up,,, about none, i think?

I have always believed that when out trail riding and a bike fails from low spark, difficulty to restart after stalling when Hot.

Put it in the shade. Open the ignition cover if possible. Take a break. Let everything cool down.
Clutch it down a big hill and go home  ;D

And about cooling ignitions? we all want reliability out on a trail ride.
Water?, Heat, cyclic heat are the enemies for both rotor and stator.
Husky WR360's suffer ignitions destructed from heat as do many bikes.
I am about to repossess WR360 very soon.
My intention is to add a small plastic fan impeller like those little ones fitted on to the back of most washing machine pump motors.
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=fan+impeller+types&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiOitWZourWAhWFVLwKHTSqCzkQ_AUICigB&biw=1094&bih=474#imgrc=FBOeYoXcPAIyrM:

Trim it to a minimum, so that the cover only has to be spaced out a minimum.
Lightweight filtered feed hose in from the top front of bike(backbone), Holes in impeller machined and placed over slots in external rotor, forcing cool intake air to have no choice than to be drawn through and over Stator. before being pumped through a lightweight exit tube to rear subframe area etc.

I think Cool ignitions go hand in hand with improved reliability as well as long jeopardy.
Weeeell that's my plan at least.

Got it going, lots of fuel leaking out of the carb and I think some is running into the engine as well, did you buy your new carb from re mx and how was the jetting,I think either a rebuild or new carb

Nice,

I think the Rubber tip on the float needles go dry and hard in the  absence of fuel and use.

Anyhow that is what I found with the XR500 when prepping for the Bulahdelah Vinduro.
I always undo the drain screws on the carbys when stood up.
It had been sitting unused for a couple of years.

Kept tapping the bowl with the plastic butt of a screw-driver. Would sort of nearly stop leaking,,,
But eventually did after a few days soaking with fuel again,,,,

Moral of my story for me is = start them and use them more often.

And Mike 1948, not meaning to hijack your thread, great career, from the years I have followed you on here.

One life, do it for you!

Would love to see and hear the story about this HJH Scrambler,, It sounds like a legend as well. Good luck Mike.

Bullshit!, You guys are reminiscing over the quote in the movie "On any Sunday" about being the second most physically demanding sport after Soccer,,

"Worn out" does not happen from being Physically fit!

One of my clients has an e bike, hand made in the Shepparton , Victoria region. He picked the mountain bike he thought would be best for his application & they fitted the electrics. I had a go on it & it is pretty damn good. Instant traction & very, very fast (upwards of 60kph in secconds). It has two power curves & the owner told me to roll the "throttle" rather than snap it when in the high curve. I tried both ways & the bike jumped straight out from under me & sat me on my arse when I snapped it. My client heads out into the bush (right behind a housing estate) & rides without making noise. He also has a solar charging mat that fits in his camelback which he uses if the charge is getting low (he has around 2 hours at full power). 30-45 minutes of relaxing in nature while he tops up the charge & he's away again. It's not my thing (at the moment) but is definitely part of the future.

Someone mentioned above e-speedway bikes, now that would be interesting to see a top rider line up against the current 500cc 4T bikes in SGP. I wonder if they would be any quicker? Have the riders of today reached the limit as to just how fast you can go sideways  :o

Couple of spare batteries always charging in the pits, quick change when needed & away they go. Could see speedway come back to inner suburbs showgrounds tracks etc., maybe even long track at metro horse racing tracks...............

i was at the isle of man this year, read the program....... E bikes. Couldn't believe the complete lack of interest, lack of any thing that remotely resembled  atmosphere. They were only good for 1 lap. Nobody was rushing to the pits to check em out.

Pretty sure some one said this new internet thing will never catch on either Geoff  ;D

Anyhow, this is what I'm talking about, or a trials one. Not a roadie,,,,,,,, Yet ::) ;D
